That is not true at all though, using savestates to """train""" requires less patience and memory, two skills required to play properly. Learning a game while having a real drawback when failing isn't the same thing as learning a game with no punishment for failing, you don't play in the same conditions, wouldn't dare trying certain moves and going out of your comfort zone etc

Any 1CC achieved by training with savestates was achieved with cheating. If you're cool with using cheats knowlingly, then there is no issue, but don't tell yourself "cheating is not cheating because really it's literally the same thing", that is some real lame cope.

I play shmups very casually, once or twice a month or so because I feel like shooting things up, and I don't care about 1CCs. I've gotten to the point where I'm pretty good at 2hu 7 and 10, my favorites, but not nearly enough for 1CC.

One time I managed to 9cc Dodonpachi (no loop) on MAME. Try not to be too impressed.

Just practice bro. I went from only playing classic shmups and hardly ever 1cc to (normal) 1ccing touhou 6, 7, 8, 10, 13, 14, 15 using pointdevice mode. I had set lives/bombs higher where I could, but it only took me a few hours for each. Touhou 7 and 10 are probably the easiest ones also (fuck kanako's last spell tho)

If you're waiting for your turn or playing the opponent in multiplayer that could not be considered cheating. You know darn well what I'm referring to. Watching a let's play and trying to copy it move for move and having no real understanding of what any of it means or why you're even doing it.

1CCs are cool but old games were not meant for it (they were designed to eat quarters) and "modern" games were/are balanced towards a small demographic of autis... experts. That means you need a level of mastery most players won't care for.
I'm fine with games balanced around unlimited continues with checkpoints you can't bruteforce, or limited continues for console games. Then if you really enjoy it, you can try to gor for 1CC.

Only game I 1cc was Mushihimesama. Took me few months (practicing a thing or two once or two times in a week or two) and yeah, that felt great. I know that most console shmups are easier but something keeps me going back to arcade releases.

Future plans are to 1-all DDP, DOJ and Garegga, they are just so much fun. Do you guys think I should pick something entirely different instead?
