I think MGS1, 2, and 3 is a great trilogy of games but I don't know if you count that considering it kept going.

Kojima has explicitly said those three were designed as a trilogy, which is part of the reason he didn't originally use a more dynamic camera in Snake Eater so it would still have the same "feel".

>those three were designed as a trilogy
he wanted to drop the series after 2, nothing from 3 onward was planned

I prefer the actual retro games for the Apple II.

>MM: The change to a third person camera view is quite a radical departure for the series. How did it come to that and how will it change the gameplay?

>Kojima: We had experimented with 3D camera when we were creating MGS3. Of course we heard many voices from fans that they want a 3D camera in there. However if we created a MGS3 with a 3D camera point of view of course the users that were used to MGS1 und 2 would feel a little odd. Also, I have my weakness, I get 3D sickness, so when I was creating MGS3, I wasn't really into the 3D camera experiment.
>However we kept continuing to experiment with the 3D camera but I decided not to implement this in MGS3 because I thought 1, 2 and 3 are like a trilogy, I wanted to keep the same kind of flow or the game feel that the user had for 1 and 2.
>But I understand that the trend in the games today is this camera. Therefore at the end of creating MGS3 I really thought that we need to put this trend camera into MGS4.

>IGNPS2: When you're done with [Metal Gear Solid 2], would you like to go on and do something totally fresh or would you rather make a follow-up to an older game, like Snatcher, Policenauts... or... a Tokimeki Memorial Drama CD?

>Hideo: (Laugh) I want to do something totally different, but I've been saying this forever! I said that right after MGS, too.

>"I really think that Metal Gear has to live on in some form," [Kojima] confesses. "But as I said at the end of Metal Gear Solid, I really think it is time for me to hand the director role over to someone else. I might do the initial planning for the next game but not much more than that."

1/2/3 were definitely not designed as a trilogy, regardless of what he said after the fact. Now that I'm re-reading these old interviews, it doesn't even sound like he intended for MGS to have a sequel at all

He's said this same thing after Metal Gear 1, Metal Gear 2, MGS1, MGS2, and MGS4. After each Metal Gear game he told anyone who would ask that he is done with the series or that there will be no new game.

The whole reason Snake's Revenge exists is because he told the dev he met on a train ride that Metal Gear wouldn't get a sequel, giving him the blessing to make a sequel without him.

>> No.9225705

>>9225627
Other way around. Konami made Snake's Revenge without any of Kojima's consent or knowledge. He only found out because a co-worker brought it up on the train and asked him to make a real sequel, and so he did.

it was a prototype version of the camera for MGS4
