I wish i had started collecting games earlier. Prices have literally doubled if not tripled in just a few years.

>> No.9189109

I'm glad I started collecting games earlier, because I just sold most of my collection off to braindead zoomers and bought a set of flashcarts.
Hope you enjoy Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for $240 bucks, my friend! It paid for a Wii (now hacked) and external drive with plenty left over.

Most games aren't that expensive, consider starting your collection with some obscure third party games or popular first parties instead of just going on ebay, typing gamecube, sorting by most expensive and crying because you don't want to pay 400$ for a pokemon bonus disc.

They're cheaper if you buy them by wholesale lots, but in general yeah it's better to just emulate or use a flash cart or ODE. Also depending on the game, you can still buy physical compilations on modern consoles. Tbh I haven't used any of my original hardware in years, just emulation since like... Mid-2010's

On the other hand, I bought a bunch of games 10 years ago for dirt cheap that are expensive now. idk used game prices have always been retarded. This. In 50 years all of the original cartridges will degrade or tarnish away to nothing and only the rom horders will be the only ones actually preserving these games for the future. It is simply more practical to transfer roms to a new storage device when the old one wears out than it is to keep a bunch of N64 or Game Boy carts and their button batteries operational. Its simple logistics.

I admire the passion of collectors of original hardware, but its a losing battle. Join rom gang.

Let me tell you something friend. I really got into collecting in about 2010 and even back then I was wishing I got into it earlier. I passed up a lot of games and now I wish I got them then. Wait a year and see if the covid bubble bursts, and after that if you have the money get the games you want. Obviously you won't be able to get a complete collection like people used to but if there's a game you really really want just go for it. You can always sell it later.

I finished collecting around 2010 for retro systems, it was more for preservation back then as they probably would have been dumped in the garbage otherwise. I actually did find a box of nes games dumped around then.

Still nice to get xbox 360 games, you can install them on an xbox 360 console and then just put them on a usb in your computer and run them on an emulator.

Castlevania: Dracula X
Sparkster
Hagane
Knights of the Round
King of Dragons
Kirby's Dream Course (it's a wild game)
Captain Commando

I've been watching a copy of Pocky and Rocky 2 for a very good price for the better part of a year, but it's a big commitment that I'm just never in the position to pull the trigger.

If you can find a copy of Wild Guns for a decent price, pull the trigger. It's one of the best games I've ever played, period. It's number one on the system for me, and probably top 10 games.

No you don't, other-wise you'd have them on hard drives for free. What you "like" is pretending you're a kid again by playing on the console you did when you were a kid because your life's a wreck and the only modicum of happiness you find in life is collecting schlock made for actual children by an actual child-targeting company, to make your life worth living.

Anyone with any even remotely slim amount of self-respect would just emulate it instead of blowing 100$ on a cartridge just to simply be bathed in the warm TV-radiation you were when you were 7. I dropped out of college and just started spending my days playing vidya, collecting retro games and watching shows and movies, I'm honestly the happiest I've ever been. The only shitty part is that I don't really meet new people anymore but I wholeheartedly recommend taking the NEETpill, I only do shit I enjoy doing and it's great.

I finally got my favorite SNES game Chrono Trigger loose copy in very good condition for $200.00. I lost my old SNES Chrono Trigger back in 1999 so i finally have the SNES Chrono Trigger to go my old very mint condition Chrono Trigger box with poster and manual. I also got a one of the video game box protected acrylic hard case that look like the WATA case for my SNES Chrono Trigger copy for my retro video game collection so it not be damage or lost again. I wish i had buy a new sealed copy of SNES Chrono Trigger back in 1999 at the store when they was still selling the SNES game for $70.00. I am just happy finally got my old Chrono Trigger game back in my hand. If you love the game and want play the game in it original form on the original console go buy the game before it too late when it still cheap to buy. If i had time machine i would buy 10 sealed copy of SNES Chrono Trigger in March 11, 1995 at Toy ' R US and used one just play on my SNES and save other new sealed copy as back up so i will never feel left out not getting i wanted after all years of my life growing up.

i highly recommend you lube your joysticks if you arent already. japan can be a pretty good source to find controllers. They tend to be taken better care of and Ive gotten lots of 8 on ebay for under 100 bucks.

Maintaining your oem parts and replacement parts like kitsch bent and more hardcore metal bowls and sticks should let n64 controllers outlive you.

One good thing about having an autistic smash community in n64 is that they are in dire need of great controllers which helps spur a market big enough to make things such as steel stick or restick (which hopefully get more affordable overtime)

>> No.9198520

>>9198519
are those steel stick things all theyre cracked up to be? i'll never go for them because the tribute64s suit me just fine but they look cool

>> No.9198529

>>9198520
Never tried one and they are near impossible to get unless you shit franklins.

Resticks are more affordable so might try their steel stick/bowl when they are in stock again.

I've been working from home for a year and just gaming my ass off, watching movies I always heard were awesome, life has never been better. I agree with you guys that there are just so many awesome games I've yet to play and that inspires me. I've just taken the hobby pill on life and never felt better. Cheers lads.

Why does every zoomer wannabe collectorfag whine about this? What were you expecting? These games aren't being made anymore, there is a limited amount of them in circulation. If you want to collect rare Chinese sculptures from the Ching Chong Dynasty era, its gonna cost a lot. How is this even a discussion?

Should just sell it now since we're so close to WW3 right now with stupid communist wanting to fuck taiwan ass. I mean, I love to collect video game like this, I envy you, I wish I started collecting them early 2000s like that but in this age? Fuck me man, expensive as hell with some shit going on right now with our world..

>when modded consoles and Everdrives exist.
You will never experience a game with an Everdrive or a pirated ROM.
It's also illegal anyway, and I enjoy not being a criminal. You deserve to get shot and raped.

Nope! I made legitimate backups of my collection before selling it off. Perfectly legal.
And I can confirm for you that they all play exactly the same. Some perform even better, since I patched my legit roms with fan patches in some cases, like I fixed Space Station Silicon valley from crashing with an expansion pak for example. Pretty neat huh?

that's what i said—i don't want games to play better, i want them to precisely as shitty as they were when they were first released
because THAT is the genuine experience of the game

The SNES one literally erases and flashes the chip each time you change games. Once that happens it's 100% the same.
They even accept this kind of stuff for speedruns, so that's how you know it's accurate.
