No source BUT they planned a 5 act story to span between at least 2 games. First one was released on PC with 2 acts and a cliffhanger ending but Konami scrapped the sequel because Snatcher's development took too long. But they were ok with a JRPG remake (for some reason) so SD Snatcher came out. Story was changed in small parts and the ending was extended, though storytelling was a lot simpler than the main game. And when they decided to do console ports they included an even more cut down version of SD's ending as the third act that still ends on a cliffhanger, with Gillian heading to Moscow to stop Snatcher manufacturing.

I like the story a lot but I'm put off from replaying it because I was so bad at the shooting. Same with Policenauts. Was there a way to make it a little easier? It's probably has the most complete ending of all the versions, since there's extra scene (not written by Kojima, but done by the porting/localization team) where Gillian basically gains a harem with Jaime, Mika and Katrina. The PC Engine is kinda ambiguous as to what happens to Mika and Katrina at the end of Act 3, while the PS and Saturn ports they're just kinda there when they see off Gillian and Jaime.

Same here. the game is a visual novel because it was made for a Japanese 8-bit PC that could barely do convincing scrolling. Kojima worked at the home PC division of Konami. The PC-88 and PC-98 seemed to be more centred around visual novels. The MSX 8-bit computers could do more action-y type of things. That's why Metal gear was made for those.

I never understood Marc Laidlaw's (no relation to the Half-Life guy) autistic obsession with matching things up with the Sega CD localization of Snatcher, even when there's no reason to. Like he changed the year of the Snatcher calendar from 2042 to 2047 in order to match up the updated year in the Sega CD version, but that particularly piece of Snatcher memorabilia was only released in Japan. There was never any U.S. Snatcher calendar that used the 2047 date.

The censorship wasn't as bad as people say it is. I own a copy of snatcher for the sega CD, I have played it many times. I have never played the PCE-CDROM version. Only watched it in a Youtube video for comparison, A teenage girl gets bumped up to legal age, so Konami wouldn't be struck down for supporting soft core paedophilia. There is a bit of nudity cover up. There's a death of an animal that was toned down (for PETA). But overall, the Sega CD version isn't that badly censored. In a few cases, the artists went and made the Sega CD version gorier. I guess they realised Mortal Kombat really opened up graphic murders. The Sega Saturn and Playstation 1 ports mosaic the graphic scenes, and the Playstation 1 version has the same sexual censorship that the Sega CD version has. but the Saturn port actually keeps all of the sexual content from the PCE-CDROM version.

It was because of the additional voice acting that the PCE-CDROm and Sega/ Mega CD versions had that the PC originals did not, Some of the expressions are a bit goofy though. Also certain that the Japanese PC originals actually display at a higher resolution than the console ports. So more information is on screen at once. You can see that looking at the 'recruitment poster' in the JUNKER HQ lobby doesn't overlap over the background when you inspect it. >>9183835

Jeremy Blaustein has said multiple times in podcasts that Hideo had zero to do with the Sega CD port of Snatcher. Jeremy Blaustein was heavily involved with the project at Konami USA. I think he worked with another translator to iron out the script for English. I have heard a story from someone on Neo GAF that Hideo was unaware of the Sega / Mega CD version. He was surprised when someone showed him a US copy of the Sega CD Snatcher to sign, and Hideo had never seen it before. he was leafing through the manual and such. IDK how true that is though.

Yes, he was, but the game was still developed by a Japanese team at Konami. Basically everyone except Blaustein and Scott T. Hards (the actual translator, since Blaustein only did rewrites), and probably a few marketing people were Japanese. He's a good translator for what its worth, but he also wants people to see him as a creator on his own instead of just the intermediary that he actually was. Admittedly, a lot of people tend to dismiss Guy Cihi's account of things due to his weird beliefs, but all you need to do to realize how petty Blaustein is just listen to the few podcast interviews he has done where he downplays other people's involvement when it comes to the success of the games he worked on while throwing other people on the bus when it suits him (such as the case in Symphony of the Night dub, where he blames the voice director for his shitty screenwriting).

Also, he still has a chip on his shoulder at Kojima for not returning his calls and hiring another translation agency to do all the Metal Gear games after MGS1.

In the translation documents that Kaku leaked to Hardcuck Gayming 101 a few years there's a lot of back and forth between herself and one of her supervisors (Satoshi Hirano if I recall correctly). It's pretty obvious she never actually played MGS1 because she kept translating 無線機/musenki as radio instead of using Blaustein's choice of "Codec". Incidentally, the only reason why Snake's radio is called a "codec" is precisely because Blaustein didn't recognize 無線 as the Japanese word for radio.
