The only good thing is the music and atmosphere at the start, the rest of the game just goes down the crap shoot. From the stupid coloured door puzzle, flying faces that pop in and out, and the maze puzzle, it just keeps going downhill. They Hunger is just as bad, but least it doesn't take itself too seriously so you can have a laugh every once in a while.

Where should I download the mod from? Looks interesting, but I have zero experience with HL mods and the places they are hosted on. Probably a stupid question to be asking when search engines exist, but I was effectively offline during and long after the release of the original Half Life and never had a chance to get into downloading and playing mods.

Why don't you try them? It's free after all. But to address it directly, I did never play the original mods. They Hunger, in particular, seems fine on Sven to me (which have a nice exclusive spin-off of sorts, by the way). However, some newer conversions do have issues (Half-Rats comes to mind).
