If you had to make a list of 10 essential must play games for NES, SNES, and N64, what would be on it? (a short reason why for each game would be cool too).

>> No.911706

>>911675

Little Samson and Mr. Gimmick were better than SMB3 in my opinion.

Then again I may have played SMB3 so many times through the years that I may have gotten tired of it...

I don't understand why all the hailing of Mr. Gimmick as the best game ever, to me it's just too hard to be enjoyable at all.
also, if you disagree with him why don't you make your own list rather than whine that his choices were not the same as yours

>> No.912440

>>911675
>FC
The Guardian Legend (just fucking play it, all I can say)
Final Fantasy III (first proper FF, the outer world mapis quite a shocker, dat soundtrack)
Metroid
Zelda II
Gradius II (great shmup, very good port despite the limitations)
Legacy of the Wizard (plays like Metroid but it's much more complex)
Castlevania III (VRC6 only please)
Super Mario Bros
Ninja Gaiden
Mega Man

>SFC
Super Metroid (best metroid)
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI
ActRaiser (god game and castlevania clone mashup, very unique)
Illusion of Gaia (feels)
Castlevania IV
Gradius III
R-Type III (just to see the first stage's visuals)
Final Fantasy V
Front Mission

>N64
Haven't even played 10 games.

>>911941
Quake 2 64 is terribly butchered.

>> No.912467

>>912440
US version of Castlevania 3 has better music, in the same way Genesis music is better than SNES music.

>> No.912475

>>912467
>US version of Castlevania 3 has better music
Agreed. They didn't use the VRC6 very well in the Japanese soundtrack.

>in the same way Genesis music is better than SNES music
If you're only comparing the soundtracks of Bloodlines to Super Castlevania IV, then I agree with you that Bloodlines was better. Otherwise, you're an idiot.

>> No.912479

>>911675
as someone who dislikes pretty much anything nintendo

>NES
monster in my pocket
contra
battle city/tank 1990

>> No.912491

>>911675

In no particular order

NES:

>Super Mario Bros 3
one of the best platformers of all time, with a lot of really interesting powerups, I think the most that have ever been in a Mario game
>Metroid
one of the best speed run games of all time
>The Legend of Zelda
do I even need to explain this?)
>Mega Man 3
Clearly a superior game to even the venerated Mega Man 2, one of the best action platformers ever made.
>Crystalis
One of the first true action RPG's
>Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
A truly hard game that really tests your timing.
>Ninja Gaiden
Balls to the walls hard, trust me you will get frustrated and hate birds for weeks after, addictive soundtrack, one of the first games to use cinematic cut scenes
>Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
Better than the original because it lets you use multiple characters.
>Contra
Addictive, fun 2p run n gun action
>Kirby's Adventure
just because it's kirby and it's fun.

SNES
>Super Mario World
arguably better than SMB3
>Mega Man X
Pinnacle of the Mega Man series, its only flaw is its easy difficulty. Some of the best 16 bit jams ever made.
>The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
arguably the best 2D Zelda, some argue for Link's Awakening. I prefer LTTP.
>Super Metroid
Best Metroid game ever made, and best Metroidvania.
>Chrono Trigger
One of the best JRPG's ever made, great soundtrack, fun time travel plot with a few instances of your actions in the past affecting the future, great combat system with use of double and triple techs, lovable and varied cast.
>Final Fantasy VI/III
Best Final Fantasy story made, giant cast, epic soundtrack, epic villain who actually succeeds in destroying the world.
>Secret of Mana (or Seiken Densetsu 3 if you emulate)
3 player action RPG, enough said.
>Actraiser
Part city sim, part action platformer with RPG elements
>Terranigma (or Illusion of Gaia for US)
>Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrels
RPG with puzzles

what can I say, RPG's kind of dominated the SNES, I could have done 10 RPG's alone

>> No.912512

>>912491

>link's awakening best 2d zelda

The oracle games are a more polished and longer experience, it baffles me how anyone can prefer link's awakening if they're going to pick a gameboy zelda as the best zelda

>> No.912521

>>912512

Oracles games considered I still prefer A Link to the Past, I replay it almost yearly.

>> No.912594

NES:

Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
The Legend of Zelda
Metroid
River City Ransom
Mega Man 2
R.C. Pro-AM
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
Excitebike

>> No.912687

>>912491
personally I think that if you regard metroid as just something that's good for speed running you are missing the point of the game

>> No.912717

>>912512
the oracle games are more polished, sure, but at least to me they don't have the same charm as link's awakening

>> No.912721

>>912479
I will never understand people like you that need to state their dislike for nintendo in ever single nintendo thread, what is the point?

>> No.912735

>>912687

The game "rewards" you for speed running it.

It's not till prime series that completion was rewarded instead.
