Any emulation devices you actually use?

I have one of these things, yes it really is that small. I don't recommend it for fast paced games like Mario, but RPGs where you don't need precise button presses are fine. I mainly use it to play Pokemon on the train without attracting attention to myself or having to lug some chunky device that's bigger than my phone. (fuck emulating on phones, I need physical buttons)

Last week I picked up this JXD S5300 2nd hand for 12€ incl. shipping and I have been having quite a lot of fun with it. It was softbricked and only needed a firmware reinstall(which I managed to find in a russian forum).

Honestly, for being a nearly 10 year old handheld that was $90 at launch it's really decent. Runs up to PS1/N64(both playable with some frameskipping), the battery lasts 3 hours gaming, probably because it has been most likely barely used. Ironically it's just a tiny 2200mah battery, I measured the available space inside and it is enough to fit a 5000mah battery, so I'm planning to get one.

Downsides are that the dpad and the screen are pretty bad, the soc is also fairly weak but seems to be just about fast enough to do the job. Its a Sunplus GPL83000 1GHz Cortex A8 with PowerVR SGX 531 gpu, 512mb ram and 4gb internal storage expandable with microsd slot.

Another odd thing on this handheld is that the analog stick is mapped to mirror the dpad, which is a bit problematic for some N64 games although an on-screen dpad does the job when its needed.

I mean, he got it for 12€. What kind of great emulation device would you expect?

In any case the PSP does suck as an emulation "box" when it can't even handle SNES and GBA emulation as good as a $50 Miyoo Mini. Shit, the RG351s can handle PSP better than the PSP handles GBA. Only thing going on for that handheld is the shape.

>> No.9116961

>>9116871
It's indeed such a good form factor. Although for PSPs I'd say you need at least a 300x for the brighter screen, since one friend has a 2003 and it has a pretty dim screen, dimmer than the JXD and than a nintendo dsi which I also own for comparision, in sunny days it's pretty bad. Also the legit PSP is far worse in emulation than the JXD. But well, the PSP has such a good library that you don't really need to emulate titles for entertainment. The dpad and the front speakers of the PSP are also much better.

>>9116878
Yeah for 12€ it has exceeded my expectations. I really did not expect N64 to run as well as it does. Just GBA emulation is kinda meh, not because of the speed but rather because of minor input lag, it's noticable in some games that require faster reactions. Although that issue appears to be present on other android handhelds too.

It's more a 3DS situation, you hack it and blow it open, you've got a library of bretty gud first party titles, and some alright ports and alright emulation. If a modchip wasn't involved an OLED Switch full of pirated content would be a great handheld choice.

A PS4 controller with your average phone is an annoyance to use. It's twice as heavy as the average handheld, you get some input lag even wired and you have to deal with constantly having to clip and unclip.
