then if the form factor isnt'a requirement as is, why not going for a miyoo mini / any anbernic? DreamCast requires tons of power because muh propietary code, but ps1 and downwards run pretty nice on most devices these days, hell, even the cheapo PK v90 runs a lot of games running the miyoo cfw and it costs 35 and sometimes is on sale for 25

>> No.9084937

>>9084927
I watched a few reviews and I don't like the anbernic devices. The RP2+ looks good and works fine with dreamcast.

I had never heard of the miyoo device I'll look into it

>> No.9084957

>>9084937
The miyoo isn't good for PS1. It can play some games but not most of them, doesn't have sticks for the games that support them and the shoulder buttons are bad. Also it's really made to be very portable so ergonomics are compromised.
It's really only worth it as a pocketable 2D console emulator, which it does great.

>> No.9085016

>>9084796
>i really want a vertical handheld, should i go for the thing in op or maybe the other one he mentions?
I like my 351V a lot, and I've heard good things about the Miyoo Mini. Reviews for the A20 seemed kinda mixed, and I don't remember seeing anyone post about having one.

>> No.9085031

9085031

I'm strongly considering an RG353P right now, because it appears to be everything I want out of a system.
>Plays all SNES games, including more challenging SA-1 stuff
>640x480 screen
>Linux with Portmaster support
>N64 actually playable with no hassle
>Good custom firmware
>SNES design and SN30-like controller ergonomics

The ergonomics and build quality are a big point to me. I thought I would enjoy my RG351MP more, but the square metal shell ended up being more of a detractor for me.
RG351MP weighs 267 grams, whilst RG353P appears to weight 209 grams in a larger form factor.

Anyone here had first-hand experience with this thing?

>It's really only worth it as a pocketable 2D console emulator, which it does great.
Well wouldn’t then it be better to get a powkiddy v90 for half the price and put cfw on it? From what I understand it does GBA perfectly and SNES pretty well.

>> No.9085072

>>9085063
The screen on that is only 320x240 so scaling will look worse. Also you read everywhere that the build quality is pretty fucking cheap. And it's still quite a bit larger than the Mini.

Most retro games run at resolutions lower than that. Game Boy is 160x144, GBA is 240x160, NES and SNES are 256x224 or some shit like that etc. You can run these at 1:1 ratio but you're not gonna be using the full screen. If you do scale them up to 320x240 it's gonna look wonky. 640x480 is a huge improvement.

>> No.9085143

>>9085127
I’d say that for a system that can only run those systems, 320x240 is way better than 640x480. Displaying 1:1 on the 240p screen is going to look much better than whatever meme interpolation you use to scale to 480p.

>> No.9085151

>>9085143
You realize 480p is exactly double of 240p so if you don't want to use scaling you can just use integer scale and still have a better picture because the LCD pixels are less visible, right?

On top of that, the internal components are almost the exact same. Only the external layout changes but basically they're the same console.
Both use 2 micro sd cards: slot 1 for the os, and slot 2 for games and roms.
That's why I can swap sd cards between those devices. I wasnt like this before though. Adam Image 2.0 introduced that feature. Previously, you had to copy your savegames/savestates manually from the slot 1 to the slot 2. It was a hassle

I'm looking into getting a handheld, since they do appeal to me quite a lot, I only have one main issue with them, that I've had ever since I became an adult, and it's my hands, they're quite big and most handhelds I've used in my life time had relatively small buttons, I recall not liking the DS Lite and DSi for that reason, it's uncomfortable for me, and handhelds in general now feel quite small in my hands. What are some handhelds that feel good for people with bigger hands? In this case something with a form factor that accommodates to it and with big buttons too.

I am aware of that device, in fact I was looking into making my own cm4 in a hyperkin SupaBoy, but then it occured to me that I want to attach a screen to an actual snes controller. swapping out the sn30 dpad with an original snes dpad or doing the tape trick on the contacts turns that controller into an exact wireless replica of an og snes con. you prob dont have to do that with the new versions but I got an old sn30 so I'll use that.

I think I'm gonna actually be able to do this. I found this thing in pic from waveshare. you just slot in a cm4 and it has a 2.8 640x480 ips fully lamenated screen and a board with sd slot, usb, and other shit. just gotta design a 3d printed housing and some way to attach it to the controller, maybe like the way you clip a phone to an xbox controller sorta thing.

I just have to make sure it'll work with lakka and get the refresh rate and pixel response times from waveshare and if the specs arent horrible I'm a give it a go.

but I just learned about cm4 to cm3 adapter boards so I'm gonna go ahead with the project I been putting off for two years and build my circuit sword in a full sized gameboy dmg shell. it's prety much gonna be a full sized gpi case 2 without a shit screen.

>> No.9104537

My RG353P arrived today, and there's a glaring issue with the screen nobody seems to have mentioned somehow.
60hz games look really choppy on the reportedly 124hz refresh rate display.

It's super noticeable when playing games with any kind of smooth 60hz framerate, it makes them look choppy despite hitting 100% full speed.

I've not heard ANYONE complain about this, do people seriously not notice this or is there some sort of setting I need to change to correct this?
It's present in both the stock firmware, and in the JELOS custom firmware that I flashed.

>> No.9104563

>>9104537
I tinkered with it and it looks like the the video sync setting "Sync to Exact Content Framerate (G-Sync, FreeSync) alleviates the issue, but it might not eliminate it.
Since 124hz is a very unusual refresh rate.

no, there's a lot of context missing. are you referring to the old input lag thing? it was mainly an issue with older emulation handheld devices like the GPD XD and only if you used shitty emulators like the .emu ones. nowadays you can get $100 used phones running SD845 chips that run up to and including ps2 with little issues, and you have things like runahead frames on retroarch to further reduce input lag to where it's as noticeable as these linux-based handhelds.
>clip on controllers are aids
I agree, thankfully we're seeing the rise of telescopic controllers that are actually worth using like the kishi and gamesir controllers. and now backbone is releasing an android version of their telescopic controller with audio pass-through so things are really looking up on that front.

I have an Analogue Pocket on preorder in group B (end of this year, supposedly), but there's still no jailbreak for the damn thing. I only own like a handful of cartridges and was mainly intending to download ROMs for it. At this point should I just cancel the preorder and instead buy a GBA? Thing is if I buy a GBA I'm almost certainly going to want a screen mod, and also will need to get a flashcart, at which point the price probably won't be too far away from the Pocket.

>> No.9107086

the gba screen mods all have horrible ghosting due to a 30ms pixel response when going from black, plus an additional flaw where flickering sprites remain visible on the screen longer than they are suppose to.

its such a gamble when doing these mods or building pi's in gb shells because most if not all of the screens come from blackberrys, digital cameras, and gps devices

After a day with the RG353P, I have to say the screen refresh issue is far less of a problem after applying the "Sync to exact content framerate" setting.

Unless you're really sensitive to it, you might only notice it when playing games that make heavy use of flickering for pseudo-transparency; you may see a stalled frame every other second.

"Ki", meaning spirit, is the power that living beings have in the Dragon Ball Universe.
It's what lets them fly around and throw energy blasts and beams around.

In that scene, they're using a magical item to steal Gohan's Ki, which they will use in the effort to reawaken Majin Buu.

"Ki" isn't a concept exclusive to Dragon Ball, you also see it under the name "Hadou" meaning "waves", such as the Hadouken in Street Fighter (literally "wave motion fist", or even in Pokémon with Lucario with "aura".
