What are some of your favorite text adventures, /vr/?

And don't say Zork, faggots. Be original.

There was a port of Wumpus to DOS in the late 80s by none other than Apogee, as part of an Adventure Fun-Pack, iirc. One of the first I played and really liked.

Does princess tomato count?

Yeah, here it is. It was called "The Thing", but it really was just Hunt the Wumpus.

With Monochrome or Color modes!

There was also a Puzzle Fun Pack by them that came with it on another 360K diskette. I remember using the printer at my dads work to print out mazes made with the maze generator. Neat that I found these again on 3DRealms ftp.

I remember playing a bunch of his games when I was a kid. Never did finish any of the though. ;_;

The site contains links to online versions of some of his games.

Some bible games are good. Spiritual Warfare, for example.

Judge how good the game is based on design, not other shit.

not that guy but how would a text based bible game be any good? It would either be about shit in the bible itself which is good damn goofy enough but they left out the most zany shit, or it would be about pushing your beliefs on others probably and trying to convert people or maybe the goal is marry some christian girl lol. It wouldn't be any fun like a radical islam text adventure I betcha.

Has anyone actually watched the documentary, Get Lamp, by Jason Scott and is about text adventures?

It's really engaging and VERY comprehensive: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRhbcDzbGSU

Leather Goddesses of Phobos is fucking amazing. A lot better than Space Quest IMO.

And while it's not much of an actual adventure game, A Mind Forever Voyaging has some pretty damn good writing. Check out the manual before you play, good stuff in there too.

I don't see how AMFV is "not much of an adventure game". It doesn't need to have puzzles arbitrarily integrated into the narrative to be an adventure game. It's brilliant exactly how it is, and precisely because it forgoes puzzles which would be detrimental to the setting. It's INFOCOM's finest work, imo.

> It's brilliant exactly how it is
It'd be a stronger game if a third of it wasn't spent on political pandering, what with bashing Reagan and implying his christianity would bring about malnourishment and kids stoning the malnourished in the streets.
