Well I finally finished Earthbound, was suprised with how much fun it was.
I know Mother 3 is worth playing but how about the first Mother game ?

>> No.908387

It's...okay.

>> No.908386

Well you liked Earthbound. Why not?

>> No.908408

The first mother game uh... I wouldn't recommend it. It's basically Earthbound but worse. Maybe even too similar.

Mother 3 is a fucking masterpiece though, play it asap.

>> No.908431

Mother 3 is a much better game.

>> No.908441

Mother 1 is primitive as heck. Think of it as a a slightly prettier Dragon Quest.

Mother 3, on the other hand, is most definitely a masterpiece in both gameplay and storytelling. You won't be dissapointed.

Mother 3 is linear and preachy, Mother 1 is the worst JRPG experience I ever had in my entire life. Both fall far below Earthbound.

>Mother 3, on the other hand, is most definitely a masterpiece in both gameplay and storytelling.
Yeah, a linear droll with hippie-type "tv is evil, money is evil" splattered all over the script sure is a masterpiece.

Mother 3 is best described as A Beatles Album: The Game. If you're the kind of simpleton to take this sort of thing seriously, go for it.

>> No.908465

I'd play Mother 1 up to the Duncan Factory at least. If you're still enjoying yourself after that dungeon then you can enjoy the rest of Mother 1.

That is the best way to describe mother 3 I have ever heard. Really, it's more of a progressive's wet dream than an intellectual appeal like the second was. The real problem comes from the fact that most every loose end is tied up and the symbolism was sorely lacking.

And of course I made a thread without realizing there was an Earthbound thread already made, right there. I'll just paste my comment and delete it.

Alright, so I'm playing Zero and I'm infuriated by this game.

>insane amount of grinding
>inventory system that barely gives you information about the items you get, your PSI powers and such
>that enemy encounter ratio
>those bullshit enemies, like the Truck and the exploding oaks

Also I'm pretty sure I fucked up somehow, or was I supossed to get Sabe after all the Magicant shit, which by the way ended up in me getting to the normal world through the dungeon with the unfought (at least by me) dragon too soon? At fucking level 1 no less, with my Ninten being level 16. The hospital bills are ruining me while trying to train the fucker.

And yet I cannot help but appreciate the touches of humor and the unique world.

>> No.908540

Mother is far too simplistic. The music is great, the story is alright but the premise is a bit too similar to Earthbound. Bit too grindy, far too many random encounters, and very very basic.

Play it if you're a fan of the original FF/DQ games. If you really want to play it and find it to hard, there is a patch that makes it less grindy and infuriating, but overall I'd say you're not missing out by not playing it.

>> No.908543

>>908530
You didn't do anything out of order. He's supposed to be really underleveled. If I remember right he does level up faster than Ninten, but he's always going to a weak character when he's not flinging super bombs around.

>> No.908547

best to use an emulator and to use frame skipping to quicken level grinding and traveling.its the only way to enjoy this good game.

if you're gonna play mother 3 just remember about the musical rhythm combo system (tab the button along to the beat to rack up extra hits)

the game doesn't even mention you can do it and I've known people who have played the whole game without even knowing about it

Also when the screen turns black at the end of the game the game isn't over. I've known people who've turned the game off after that and didn't see the full ending

I just started a Mother 3 playthrough. I tried playing through Earthbound a while ago, but I didn't really like it. I quit around Twoson.

Anyways, holy shit, this game is great. Aesthetics are fantastic, specifically the stunningly well-made music. I'm not absolutely fond of the artstyle, personally, but the art is tied together well. Gameplay is standard RPG fare; I'd probably like it more if I could get a handle on combos. The story is great, though the anti-consumerist BS is heavy-handed and doesn't really add to the experience so much as detract from it.

On chapter 5 right now.

it was crap quality since its GBA and some do really sound horrible , like the save game song

i really wish the OST was remade though, i don't like many mother 3 themes but the few good ones are really beautiful

I recently finished Mother and am now playing Earthbound for the first time.

If you have already beaten Earthbound I would say no. I tend to grind a lot in RPGs but Mother was pretty ridiculous with random encounters and leveling requirements

hah, when I was a kid I made it all the way to the air dragon on the al bhed ship without levelling once, because I had no idea how the sphere grid works. Needless to say, the game became laughably easy when I invested those 60 or so levels. Still it was dumb on my part.
