Ha ha! I am Lemmy Koopa, and you have foolishly fallen right into my trap. But don't worry- there is nothing to fear in Lemmy's Land, unless the idea of 43 fun-filled sections fills you with terror. If you feel brave and want to have some fun, I dare you to click on me and advance into my trap. But if you feel the need to stick to some crazy schedule and don't want to have a good time, then run over to Mario and he will rescue you.

I'm still in contact with a couple of friends I made there. That eyesore will always feel like home to me. I always thought it was strange and out of character that the webmaster abruptly abandoned it without a farewell.

How did you make friends there? Was there a forum?

There was indeed a forum. A forum that went through quite a few different iterations, in fact. I actually met most of my friends in the chatroom, though, which was also replaced a few times. The original Java chatroom was always my favorite. Those sounds tap into the most primordial part of my brain.

It's gradually falling apart (and it's impressive how long it's held up, considering) but the most irritating thing about it are the automatic MIDI downloads since modern browsers don't know what else to do with them.

He was doxxed one day in late 2003 by a new forum member who turned out to be a coalition of disgruntled shitposters who just didn't like the guy and searched up the registered domain owner's name. He went by Lemmy IRL and made sprite comics for his college newspaper where he represented himself with Lemmy's SMB3 sprite. They also found a photo of him from behind where he was playing chess with the club. For us kids browsing the site, it was like the end times, but he shrugged it off cheekily and nothing ever came of it.

The interesting thing is his digital footprint had been completely erased by the time he quit the website. He's completely untraceable. I'm just an armchair sleuth, but if I can't find the guy, something's up.

God damn that takes me back. I remember reading all those comics in the summer of 2004 on my family's shit Compaq PC. I don't even think SMBHQ is around anymore.

It's not, but the last decade of its life NC was overrun by poker ads, so honestly it's better off this way.
