Hard to say. Dragon Quest localization from 8 onward has been weird in its stylistic choices, like how all characters from 1 and 2 are made to still speak in the Ye Olde Englishe accents from the original Dragon Warrior versions.

So few RPGs lately that we need to be reminded what the "fight" command does! I guess in Pokémon you choose a specific attack every time? And Nintendo Power expects much of their audience now to know this genre only as "games kinda like Pokémon (except you don't collect a lot of dudes)".

Yeah or they might have been referring mainly to Dragon Warrior II in the same cartridge, with "DW" mainly meaning the series and not the first game. It's not really a big error. Mixing up Daisy's origin when you're an official source of Nintendo information is certainly worse.

im just amazed at the instant burst of color and interesting visual detail as soon as you open one of these up. I don't know if my brain just grew to find this stuff pleasing or if it's just genuinely more interesting to look at than what you see now

That's a really good shot for Golden Sun, it almost makes the game look like it's got 3D graphics. I don't remember the intial GBA hype, but these are some choice screencaps to make it look like more than just a too-dark SNES.

I first played Q*bert on an Atari 2600. There were also NES, SNES, and Game Boy versions. But now the Game Boy Color version is the first one available in the home? What a strange thing for Nintendo Power to say.
