How monumental was the reaction to the crossover of two of the biggest IPs of the 90's. This didn't happened a lot. There was also Alien Vs. Predator & KOF also how you felt about those?

Hello

There was a lot of Crossovers happening (I remember Marvel vs DC in the comics, as well as shit like Batman vs Predator, Robert Cop vs Terminator etc)
I think fans appreciated it but everyone else was just kinda like eh okay that’s cool

I loved the X-men cartoon as a kid so I shat my pants when I saw the arcade machines. It felt like the one time some kid's pipe dream that normally wouldn't work, actually worked

Yeah thought the same, Probability some kid thought of this and really happened. I catched a few X-Men episodes but since I was born in 1991 there was no way I watch the original airings and remember.

I'm a hick from bumfuck nowhere. I'll never forget my aunt taking me to the city for my birthday presen, going to the mall arcade, and seeing Ryu do a shinkuu hadouken into fuckin Gambits face. I have never been more astonished in my life. The last thing I knew about Ryu was that he was in street fighter ii because all I had was a genesis, I never even knew about the Alpha series. What a time to be alive

It was a big deal. Everyone played those games as a kid. even if you were shit at it and couldn't do a hadouken

>> No.9060842

I was a PC kid so I had no idea what street fighter was, and didn't watch X-men, just spiderman.

Playing this game at a skating rink I went to made me a fan of both both franchises. The insanity of the specials, the intensity of the character select screen, the awesome sound effects...made more hyped than any other game of that era except maybe MK4.

I remember X-Men vs Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom 1 cabinets being around and rather popular. It was fairly common to find at places like bowling alleys or amusement parks.
When MvC2 came out on Dreamcast, kiosks at Wal-Mart had it running in attract mode on TVs. MvC2 is my favorite out of any of them by far.

It did bring in a lot of expert players that loved Marvel. It was at every movie theater, skating ring, bowling alley, and even at my school. AVP is still one of my most favorite brawlers, and I wish it got a home port. KOF was a fun time away from the professional players of the Marvel Vs. games but it was unloved in NTSC regions, like Sega.

Crazy crossovers weren't that unheard of in comics, or even video games by then. It also hit at a time where American comics were taking more influence from Japanese art, and Japanese art was going for more muscular styles as well as some artists taking influence from comics and American movies. It reached a perfect harmony and just made sense.

i actually wish this happened more but marvel & DC are such different companies now i don't think it'd be any good. and this isn't even talking about "wokeshit" either.
