Supergun Edition
Game database: http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/
^pay attention to filenames
Archive.org is where you find roms
Current MAME archives include parents+clones in the zip and all you have to do is rename the file to play a clone.
Final Burn Neo is your friend.
Fightcade for netplay.

If a game doesn't work you probably need a BIOS file.
Check your BIOS file is the correct one by checking the MD5 checksum against the one called for in the documentation.
An additional installation of plain old MAME is useful for telling you about missing files since RetroArch "mame current" core lacks this function.

If the game still doesn't work you probably need the CHD file and it needs to be in a folder with the same name as your game's ROM file in the directory where the ROM is. And the .CHD file has to have the same name.

More

-Racing games will probably control like shit the first time you try them out and require tinkering with analog sensitivity and centering speed.
-AFAIK normal light guns can't be used with most (all?) emulators even if you have a CRT. Console ports on real hardware are probably the best compromise for a real PCB. Or use a motion sensor lightgun.

Need anecdotes about the USB trackball options and qualities.

Scratch that. You can use a Guncon 2 in MAME if you use a CRT.

New mame out
https://www.mamedev.org/?p=514

>The highly-anticipated release of MAME 0.245 has finally arrived! As I’m sure many of you are already aware, we’ve added support for two elusive arcade games that didn’t see widespread release: Megumi Rescue and Marble Madness II, and the Konami Polygonet system has finally come to life. But before we get to that, there are some changes to MAME’s user interface that you should be aware of. Input options have been moved off the main menu to a submenu of their own. Depending on the system, there can be quite a few of them, and they weren’t all grouped. There’s also a new option to see the input devices recognized by MAME, which should help with diagnosing issues.

>> No.9052165

>>9052163
>Megumi Rescue was exhibited at a trade show, but apparently never sold as an arcade game. A home system port was released, but only in Japan. The original arcade game uses a vertically-oriented monitor, and lacks the life bar system and vertical scrolling found in the home version. Despite the arcade version remaining unreleased, and the home version never being widespread, the game was widely copied for TV game systems. It’s nice to see the original preserved all these years later.

>> No.9052168

>>9052165
>Marble Madness II was considered a failure on location test. It demonstrates Atari’s complete failure to understand what Mark Cerny got right when he made the mid ’80s classic. A few examples survived in the hands of collectors, but the game was never seen widely.

>> No.9052171

>>9052168
>The Polygonet system was Konami’s first foray into 3D arcade games. It was quite apparent that their in-house system wasn’t able to compete toe-to-toe with offerings from Sega and Namco. Polygonet Commanders was added to MAME almost twenty years ago, and saw sporadic progress for a few years after that. Regular contributor Ryan Holtz has written an engaging blog post about his adventures bringing it up to a playable state this month. The two games haven’t been promoted to working yet as they haven’t been extensively tested, but we’d love it if you try them out and post your experiences, good or bad.

dont you care that the pandora has horrible emulation quality and screen tearing?

i hate them so much
both of my pandoras have issue
one cant run mortal kombat and the other tears every vertical shmup i try

they are hot garbage other than being slightly useful as a way to find games you like/want to buy

you are better off buying a NUC pc and running coinops gold++

the only bootleg worth a shit is the 60:1 vertical

anonkun the types of people who collect arcade pcb are mentally ill- you think they give a fuck about the price?!

you were competing with people who own multiple cabinets, own small businesses, etc

these types of people have an insane amount of capital available to blow- compound this with regular gaymen autism and you have a final boss-tier level of bidwar on your hands

i replaced all the caps and let it power soak for a few hours - it seems to run fine but my autism wont allow the curved tunnel on the right side of the screen to stay like that if i can fix it

it seemed to straighten out over time as the caps warmed up which is strange
