Heard some bitching about the comics turning boring so perhaps this saga would be a good refresh?.

>The whole notion of Metal's individuality and personality would be based off a learning AI which complements with Sonic's bio extracted data. The falling in love with Sally is basically the AI's way of coping with Sonic's emotional link towards her. It is plausible then.
Imagine what Sally could do with her own puppy terminator sonic and Robotnik coping with the irony of he himself creating another blue pest massacring his armies.

I love when Richard Elson draws Sonic with upward spikes. I know they're mostly associated with Super Sonic or Shadow/Super Shadow, but for some reason it looks really appealing, especially with the green eyes, I wish we could see this design in one of the video games as an unlockable skin or something, which I wish Sonic would have in future titles like Crash 4 did.

Weirdly enough, I had more fun with 06 than both Unleashed and Colors. Guess the OG titles, handheld, and Adventure games is where I get off. Might give Colors DS a go as I wouldn’t mind more Rush. Still, it’s weird to not be able to get into the style of games people have sweared on for so long.

It’s a bit sad considering playing through the series is what finally got me into /vr/ and I’ve branched out to other old games as a result not to mention realized how much better and infinitely replayable old video games truly are.

Unleashed was still tolerable, but Colors just made me want to go back again so I guess that’s where the Sonic ride ends. Suppose it’s time to get to the Blaster Master series now.

Mania was definitely good. I played that after all the originals and loved it. Generations was alright from what I’ve played. Again, I’d prefer the adventure style gameplay to the boost. I’ve got lots of rom hacks for the originals though so it’ll be one I can still revisit a lot. Still need to find a hacked version of CD with the playable Amy and Knuckles though.

Colors is only worth it as a technical demo for the Wii. All those boost to win "3D" entries show how bad they are when they force you to play through 2D parts most of the time and then somehow manage to both play much worse than the classics but also nothing like those.

It’s just weird how they are missing that certain “something” Sonic 1-06 had. Like, they are fine in their own right I guess? But I wasn’t bored with any of the games up to the boost entries even if some of them were objectively bad. Hell, I even managed to enjoy Blast well enough. Thought it might just be burnout but I went back and played through 3 again and another rom hack and still have a weird amount of fun.

Also, Blaster Master as the next retro series I played through was a very good choice. It’s wild that something so innovative existed on the nes, especially when indie “retro” games still make mistakes this one managed to avoid way back in the day. Feels like every old game I play just solidifies my commitment to /vr/ and ignoring everything new.
