This is a blatant lie. Many JRPGs allow you to simply hold a.

SaGa Frontier is great for it.

or maybe it's just , get this, the truth. if you think jrpg's are a very replayable genre in general, then you're crazy

>> No.9041046 [DELETED]

>>9041003
They're not youngsters. They're bored and/or mentally deficient anons that come into a thread specifically about a genre of game to shit on it. At some point in this thread there will be discussion of shoot em ups or beat em ups. It works in a pattern and it's pretty tiresome to see. You're better off ignoring them.

You could check out grandia redux, anon. Ot apparently makes the game much more difficult, though I think it may be damn near impossible towards the end based on so e forum posts I've seen. The author buggered out and will likely never finish it, so what you see is what you get.

STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY

>>9040456
Star Ocean the Second Story is closer to a CRPG, as in you actively move the characters around the battle field and combat happens in real time where you can pause to use spells and items.

Dragon Quest 3 is pretty good for this. You can do solo runs, 1-class runs, runs where you keep the AI on for party members (i.e. don't choose their actions manually each turn).
It's not exactly a "challenge" run, but I like making a party with 3 gadabouts. Changing them all to sages halfway through is a great feeling.
>>9042927
This is another good one. You need at least 2 runs anyway to get all the characters, and there are a bunch of events you probably miss out on the first time through. You can also do solo or limited party runs for more challenge, in addition to the difficulty settings, bonus dungeons, and removing the limiter on the final boss.
The only downside is that the first few hours o the game are sort of slow, which makes it a bit of a chore to restart.

Finally playing it for the first time using that Saturn translation patch. Wanted to ever since I was a kid and played a demo on one of those pizza place demo discs. This game is fucking amazing.

Metal Max games are pretty fun for
>solo runs (don't recruit other party members)
>rental tank only (only used tanks from rental, unless you need the tank for story progression, then just don't use it in combat)
>human-only run (no tanks at all)

Some of these can be quite challenging depending on the game. I did all three runs in Metal Max Returns, but in MM1 I had to gave up the human-only run due to two bosses (ressort to rental tanks) and in MM2 I had to use an exploit to go past Ted Broiler for solo run. But apparently Japanese people did both things legit. So I would say, go for Metal Max Returns if you want to do those. Solo run is easiest (especially since you can get support from towed tanks), then rental, then human only is the most challenging but it can be done
