i probably could finish it honestly, got to 5-3, but fuck man that respawning is a pain in the ass and the music doesn't make up for it
why do people put the castlevania games on the same level difficulty wise as this? those are a lot slower paced

I wasn't very familiar with RPGs but after playing Suikoden and FFVII, I bought Saga Frontier. I picked one of the ladies and everything was fine for the first 10 hours until I reached some church with a huge boss inside. I spent days trying to kill it. I probably missed some fundamental mechanic since I didn't know english back then but even grinding my ass off didn't work.

I should probably pick it up again now that I'm old as shit and understand the genre a bit more.

Ive played both the PS1/PSP version of Valkyrie profile and in both playthroughs i was hard stopped by the Ghost temple/the tower aka where the story really starts moving, they say play on hard mode because of better items but your meant to give the items to the god to get more upgrade points and then i wonder why im so underpowered the game literally tricks you into doing that

>didn't even make it to the actually hard part of NG
Castlevania ENG versions make everything deal double damage and most enemies take several hits to kill unlike NG where every single bad buy dies in 1 hit except for silver dudes that only show up like 3 times. You also barely take damage from anything that isn't a fucking bird so as long as you aren't flying off cliffs you have tons of room for error

>> No.9026861

Every one knows Ninja Gayden is easy as shit until the last level because it has no checkpoints and cheap enemies that knock you off into pits

>> No.9026869

>>9026861
Last level has plenty of checkpoints just like every other NG level. The issue is dying to a boss will send you back to the start of X-1 even if you have extra lives left. nobody ever notices because all of the NG bosses are pathetic until the final one

So, is the series worth getting into? I have plenty of time to spare to spend on the series, and I would love to find something worth playing these days. Price-wise the PSP version is reasonable cost for its age, and 2 and the DS game do not break the bank either. The PS1 version of VP is a bit too rich for my tastes though.

Hard mode is easy because characters start at lvl 1 and you can equip them with the items that give extra hp and skill points on level up.
Also auto item is broken just put it on everyone.

Grinding literally makes everything harder in Saga games. The more battles you fight, the more your hidden battle rank increases and the deadlier the enemies become. If you didn't have improved skills / loot by the time your battle rank is high you're royally fucked.

This fucking game requires you to know in advance how to prepare for the final boss fight. There's no gradual difficulty curve that makes you go "huh, I'm feeling a bit weak maybe my characters are underpowered or I'm not making good use of some mechanics" but rather the game is mostly piss easy until the final boss. Combine that with the fact that it's easy to pass the last good grind spots and getting locked into the final scenario and you have a game where it's extremely easy to get to the final boss without much issue and then hitting a brutal wall.

Yeah, it's a pretty easy game overall. I only remember a few harder maps like the warehouse, prison or the secret ones to unlock the vandalier class.
Also the one where you have to run from all the empire's generals, if you chose to fight instead of fleeing.

The biggest mistake people make in Valkyrie Profile is sending up things to Odin. If you pay attention to what is asked for and meet the requirements of sending up good Einherjar you can keep every single artifact, keep evaluation topped off, and get the best ending. I keep even the artifacts I don't particularly need to get more points for crafting equipment.

The dryness of the Saga games put me off them more than the difficulty. I didn't mind the board game structure in Unlimited Saga, but the characters, the art, the music, the setting, everything was really dull and didn't draw me in. The same with Romancing Saga and Saga Frontier 2. Saga Frontier 1 is the only one that I put any significant amount of time into because at least it was interesting.

FFVIII. It would be my favorite in the series if the junction system wasn't such dog shit. I love the music, characters, world, and story, even with all it's ridiculousness, but that junction system is just absolute trash. Have gotten close to beating it a few times in my life since it's release date but I usually don't have the patience to get through it's autism, regardless of relying on drawing or playing cards and refining. About 2 years ago I did a low level run relying on drawing(at least you can mute the TV and listen to music or something) and got to the final dungeon but fucked up by not having limit breat returned first since low level runs rely on it so much and didn't make a back up save before entering the final dungeon because I'm a fucking dumbass. Would have to start all over now, which is usually what happens when I fuck up in this stupid ass game. I've been hyping myself up to beat it this year though and never play it again which I feel like is a genuine accomplishment because you absolutely have to have autism to get through that shit show of a game. Remembering how junctioning works gives me fucking anxiety just thinking about it.

Must be Lezard Valeth's tower. It introduces a few annoying ennemies like the demons that buff allies when they die if I remember right.
Though not as brutal as >>9034401 when you first encounter them.
