In other countries, the art directory is the main force in package design, with technical guidance from marketing and management on credits, ratings and such.

In big US studios, the AD is only one creative among a committee of artless individuals, from sales, marketing, PR, BD, 3rd party partners, accounting and craft services or manufacturing.

>soul

There was very little soul. It was mainly just robotic advertisers and entertainment executives robotically following an ugly and stupid trend in order to keep somebody's money safe. Occasionally something actually good would also be colorfully disgusting, like Ren & Stimpy or South Park, but most of this stuff was just mass-produced garbage.

>> No.9022691

>>9022397

Grotesquely, needlessly ugly (but still kinda pretty) dragon tower or whatever does beat bug-eyed "humans" in a boring action pose with regal catman behind, but it'd be pretty hard to make ANYTHING positive out of the ugly visual design of this game. It would have been better to just use a solid color with that nice "Chrono Cross" logo stuck atop it.

>> No.9022701

>>9022487

That's kinda cool though. It's crass, stupid, and pointless, but it's also somewhat fun and clever. I think they should have tried harder to make the X look accidental though. Anyway it doesn't really fit the thread. We can see well enough what they were thinking.

It's ingenious, old man just chillin' with his banjo. Happy, warmth inducing boxart. He's also blissfully unaware of all the space shit going on in the background, the universe is at stake with only the Phalanx's pilot to protect it. That's you kiddo, the player. Your parents won't understand it, like the old guy on the cover, but shit's about to get EPIC and (You) will save the universe. Damn. No for real, this boxart is great, fuck the haters.
