Pigeot was almost always pronounced "PI-jit" in early Pokemon material (even the official Pokemon handbook and Pokemon Stadium say it's pronounced that way). The sole exception was the anime, which pronounced it "Pi-jit" in the Pokerap, but "Pidgey-ot" in the show.

At some point, they officially changed it to the anime pronunciation.

Stuff like this right here is the biggest downfall for Nintendo Power in the move to 3D. Gone are the detailed level maps, and instead you get some pictures in sequence to show what they are talking about. Made the magazine a lot more text-heavy, and a lot less visual. Back in the early issues, they would have maps for the majority of the game. This is the featured game for the issue, and they can't even figure out how to present a map for it.

If I am sleuthing correctly, it appears that this game will not exactly be released under this name, and will never appear in North America in the form depicted here. It will be called Michael Owen's WLS 2000 in the UK, RTL World League Soccer 2000 in Germany, Telefoot Soccer 2000 in France, and (following a twelve-week gender change procedure) Mia Hamm Soccer 64 in North America. This development team appears to have been just confident enough in its Expansion Pak-enabled high resolution mode to include it in the published game, but not quite confident enough to put it in the normal game options where impatient people who might be severely turned off by low framerates and letterboxing could easily reach it. It's interesting to see the different ways in which various companies handle the N64's potential for (relatively) high resolution graphics. (I don't really have experience with this as a player - I've just been reading about it and watching clips on YouTube. I can't even remember whether I ever got hold of an Expansion Pak myself, to go with my very small N64 library.)

I have only ever played the gbc port as a kid and fucking loved it. I don't know why they made such a big deal of the digitized voices, even on the back of the box - it's a shitty voice line for each sword you get and that's it. Otherwise I found it more enjoyable than links awakening desu

It's why I linked that image, that was the most common depiction of Diglett at the time. The "anime art" wasn't used as often in promotional material as the Sugimori watercolor images, so while this image of Diglett existed it was overtaken by 3D models, actual appearances in the anime, and even the the Trading Card Game showing it with some level of depth. It's such a bizarrely sheltered question to ask with the way Pokemania was strangleholding the audience at the time.

Suddenly I feel like they already did mention this and I already made that same comment about it being the first time it was mentioned. Oh well, who cares. Anyway discs can be good if they are small enough. Then they aren't bad like larger discs are.
