Did you guys ever go to any of the Namco arcades? We’re those a thing? I remember going to a few arcades growing up, and I used to have some old Pac-Man game tokens. it's alright, some games like Pac-Attack and Pac-in-Time have audio issues (and PiT brightness was amped to gba-tier) and I heard there's input lag in some console versions (i play it on switch and so far i haven't noticed anythint in that regard), lack of Ms.Pac-Man and Jr.Pac-Man does suck indeed.
The custom arcade thing is cute but I don't know if I'll spend too much time on it, and I wish there was more music choices for the Arcade (wish I could use Palace Theme from Pac-in-Time).

Glad to hear the switch version doesn’t suffer from input lag. Might go ahead and grab a copy then. It really seems like one of the better compilations outside of the missing titles, but if what >>8969804 says is true, I can forgive that.

Hell, I’ve recently played through all the other big classics (ie:Mario, Sonic, Mega Man) so it’ll be nice to have an excuse to finally play through a couple Pac-Man games as the only experience I have with it (outside of DX) was when I was a kiddo and some bar in Wisconsin had an arcade cabinet of the og Pac-Man in free play mode. It’s a weirdly fond memory of mine.

Really good games in Museum+:
>Pac-Man
>Pac & Pal (controversial)
>Pac-Mania
>Pac-Man Arrangement Arcade Ver.
>Pac-Man Championship Edition
>Pac-Man 256

Really good games in Namco Museum Arcade PAC:
>Pac-Man
>Galaga
>Dig-Dug
>Rolling Thunder
>Galaga '88
>Tank Force
>Pac-Man Championship Edition 2
Notable omission: Mappy. I disagree with the idea of buying a Namco Museum without Mappy.

Really good games in Namcot Collection:
>Battle City
>Dig Dug
>Dig Dug II
>Galaga
>Mappy (!!!)
>Pac-Man
>Pac-Mania
>Rolling Thunder
But also consider that these are inferior console versions

Choose based on the games. Personally I like Museum+ the most.

Something’s definitely different. It feels like when I beat a new game I’m just done with it and it either goes on the shelf to collect dust, or I sell it. With these older games I’ll beat them (if they are linear with an end point) and instantly boot them back up to replay them and either find all the secrets, or try and do better, then on those subsequent playthroughs I’ll have just as much fun if not more. I don’t think any game past the sixth gen era has really captured that.

When the round starts each time you can take a similar path while the ghosts are in scatter.

Always look at what pinky and inky are doing because their AI is programmed to catch you off guard.

Don't go to the corners past round 5 once chase engages until you are certain you won't get caught. Use the middle roundabout as a method of corralling at least pinky and blinky. It doesn't have to be perfect you just need to remember the general timings of chase and scatter

Relying too much on the side exits is not good. You have to learn to time switching at intersections and throwing the ghosts off your tail.

Finally while you can turn corners quicker than ghosts sometimes it's better to go back and forth quickly to allow the ghosts to catch up to you OR delay getting caught by one ahead of you.

Eyup, but like I said. Mixed bag. If that Flappy Bird game bothered you, you’ll be a lot more bothered when you see over half of the other games. That being said, they do actually shell out for some of the more traditional and hardcore arcade machines to. They’ll have the new House of the Dead there, some giant versions of old arcade games like pac-man and centipede. The new and old jurassic park games. Things like that. Sadly they won’t really have any of the older arcade cabinets or reproductions of them though.

All in all if you got a couple of friends and you all pitch in some money for an evening there, it’ll be a good time.

That's because modern games completely lost their replayability because the west loves wasting time in open worlds. They bloat their first run for a spectacular "experience". They never cared about incentivizing replayability with their gameplay features alone. And these are the people that rule the market today now that japan refuses to buy home consoles. It's just all about being held hostage in an Open World concept with uninteractive D&D structures being your "gameplay".
But most japanese games these days still stay true to their replayability though. RE4 Remake and FFXVI will definitely have post-game and ng+ stuff to warrant longevity, just like their predecessors. Tales of Arise turns into a Devil May Cry with countless characters to lab or rerun the game solo with. So does Stranger of Paradise and NEO TWEWY. People are abusing the juggle exploit in both Judgment games to make fun combos.
And that's excluding games that naturally have longevity through their competitive aspects (Gran Turismo 7, some fightans like GG Strive, Super Bomberman R Online that gets shet on for not having Bombergirl booba)

The thing is that people these days view games as nothing but disposable goods. As shit you just finish and then throw into your shelf for good. Very few people actually stick with some selected games and try to get good at them. Or enjoy them solely because of their gameplay. If you go with that mindset you will still find appealing modern games, albeit not in a large quantity.
That's why Devs are focusing on holding you hostage longer with trivial activities so you can "justify" spending 60 dollars on a game that is 3-digit hours long and so gives you the necessary "value" for your money. Nobody even considers New Game +ing a game and getting their actual value that way. After all they got a backlog to guzzle through. You can thank them for our current misserable vidya state in the west.

The last bit of your post is no doubt why the professional reviews for Pac-Man Museum have been so negative. >> No.8985775

>>8985707
I like how you call it "professional reviews". Regular outlets that have to review every game under the sun couldn't possibly review gameplay-centric games like pacman with 100% fairness. That's solely because games like that just need way more time and practice to be fully grasped. There are so many nuances you only see or notice in your 3rd or 4th run, someone who has to review countless games within a short timeframe couldn't possibly understand what's going on in one individual game.
I'm not trying to say you have to be die-hard competitive to review a game fairly. I'm just saying you're usually nowhere near even intermediate level of expertise after one measly run. Interactive and deep games don't fit into the usual review system. Which is why i always look what the active scene itself has to say about the game instead of one random fucker who just got out of Horizon Forbidden West and then immediately had to put his hands on the Pacman Museum.

i'm PRETTY sure that's how it worked on arcade machines too. You're supposed to hold the input to pre-turn, not just tap it and expect it to register next time you hit a turn

later Pac games have that, try it on 256 for example

>Pac-Man is able to navigate the turns in the maze faster than his enemies. He does not have to wait until he reaches the middle of a turn to change direction as the ghosts do (see picture below). Instead, he may start turning several pixels before he reaches the center of a turn and for several pixels after passing it.

https://www.gamedeveloper.com/design/the-pac-man-dossier

that's how pac-man works from the first game, museum+ didn't change that. I think it's in most/all the maze games in some way. CE has the sparks thing, in Arrange AC you can noticeably see him round corners.

i agree on the importance part, the truth here is that Ms. Pacman is supposed to be a game AND character just as famous as her husbando. and the fact that Namco has been trying to pull excuse after excuse to bury her just because a mistake they might or might not have made is just an insult to the popularity, AND money the character gave them back then and it could STILL give them if it werent for their JAPANESE ANCIENT HONOR FOLDED 1000 TIMES!

Did Ms. Pac-Man ever have an arcade release in Japan?

Where is this 3D version of Arrangement in Museum+ from? It looks and sounds like a Bomberman game.

Real talk, why did the new collection emulate the Super Famicom version? It's not like it's Japan-only. That's such a weird choice. Game itself is also a strange pick to bring back. Are they reviving the Ghost Witch for Pac-Man World 4 or something?

is this worth getting on xbox? every game i own on series x is a 360 game and this is the first newer title ive seen thst doesnt look like totally cucked garbage. do i just get to play cool old pac man games and win ooints to buy stuff for my own little arcade room or something?

Because Namco is testing the waters to see if they can get away with wiping the slate clean with Pac-Mom (and to a lesser extent, Pac-Buddy, Pac-Boy and Pac-Sis). Pac-Man 2 would be much more involved due to all the text and sprites that'd have to be redone as opposed to the two or three frames in other games. Not to mention, the game has an unlockable Ms. Pac-Man, which requires, like, actual romhacking work to take care of instead of basic-bitch graphical/lua stuff. It would also have to be the SNES version since the Genesis port with the "Pac-Jr." edit lacks a Japanese release.

>> No.8992678

What's really bullshit is that they absolutely own every single character in Ms. Pac-Man. They just don't own the modified code. This character replacement is completely unnecessary and petty.

Because the Japanese version happens to not mention Ms./Mrs. Pac-Man by name in the intro, instead it mentions Pac-Land for some reason.

Funnily enough according to the museum figures they're leaving Professor Pac virtually alone despite his game reportedly being the reason Namco terminated ties with Midway.

>It's actually true.
This, my friends, is why on-the-fly emulation patches are cheap. Remember always that Namco though it was easier to built a translation displayer inside their emulator for their own shitty translation of the game instead of ROM-hack the "Mrs. Pac-Man" text out of there. It's not even a decent one like Radical Dreamers that gives the illusion that it's encoded into the ROM itself, it's literally off-center, dollar-store subtitles. Pathetic.

I've been loading up my newly hacked 3ds with roms and need the best version of pac-man for the system (or one I can emulate from NES/SNES/GB/DS/megadrive)

The D&B's I go to is the only one I know that has a Guitar Hero arcade machine in NJ. When I go there, I just swipe my card on there like 10 times and go at it. Everybody there plays easy mode "Slow Ride", but I'm experienced enough to do songs in Expert no problem. Having a crowd of people around you at an arcade as you show your skill is a feeling that you just have to be there to experience it. I also play Pac-Man battle royale, Mario kart arcade GX 2 and Mario Bros over there too. So overall they do have good stuff depending on the location, but yes mobile games like fucking Crossy Road gets a whole machine, while something like Piano Tiles at least gets huge piano tiles for you to hit while playing to progress, which makes it better than mobile desu.
