That's the New Vision texture pack, which existed long before GMDX and was just packed in as an optional addon, which can be disabled whenever you want. You could publish literature about all the problems with GMDX, but I'm not sure I'd call this one of them, it's the shitty texture mod's fault that you don't have to play GMDX with at all.

It's definitely well built, has a ton of different ways of sneaking into the statue, but imo the games comes on its own when you start getting off the hook a bit.
