Which compilation did it best?

Do you know any other RPG compilations on PSX?

Why is FF3 so overlooked?

It didn't get a wonderswan port, which is what all the other ports were based on.

Yeah - but then it got the DS then PSP/PC release and ofc PR.

Great game! Was my fav playthrough of PR.. I still haven't finished 6 it's a slog. 6 used to be my fav too.

Chronicles was torturous, both games had a 5 second load time to open the menu and Chrono Trigger had to load each battle. Total downgrade from the super nintendo

Im not as familiar with the other two collections but I remember 5 and 6 being basically perfect ports of the snes games.

Arc the Lad Collection with its 5 discs on PS1. On PS2, the only RPG collection that I know of would be one of those Falcom Classics discs that came with ports of Ys Book 1 and Xanadu.

Everything in Chronicles and Anthology has loading times before battles. Each is as much a "perfect port" of the original SNES game as the others, but the only real downgrade is the loading times really.

Growlanser Generations.
Sega Ages releases like Phantasy Star and Monster World.

V has possibly the worst localization of any FF game. Even SNES II is better.

Origins by far. It's still considered at least the best version of FFI in many circles. The rest are really forgettable early cart-to-CD conversions.

That's because the devs got greedy and had big plans for the FFIII remake as a PS2 game when the WonderSwan Color version was shelved. Apparently Sony blocked it so the devs eventually threw together a very, very, VERY distilled version of that idea for Nintendo DS. The game was stuck in this form with minimal fixes for years until Pixel Remaster came along, and for that reason it's widely considered the best Pixel Remaster.
>>8973365
That's because it's really the unfinished "Final Fantasy Extreme" localization. For context, imagine if Square cared so little that they inserted the so bad it's good rough NES proto translation of FFII in the PS1 version. I'm willing to bet they considered doing that before realizing the WSC/PS1 version expanded the text and so it wasn't compatible, like with FFI.

Origins is amazing, Chronicles is horrible. The loading times are absolutely horrendous.
I haven't played Anthology, but I played the PAL version of FF VI and it's okay. The loading times are noticeable, but not that bad. Definitely worth playing. There's a rumor on the interwebs that they fixed some issues for the PAL release of FF VI. I don't know if this is true, or if I'm just a little bit more patient than most players. The loading times are definitely better than Chronicles.
Also, the FFV translation is horrible, don't play this version. It's just bad.

I still enjoyed V on PS1 a lot despite this. I enjoyed the cheesy translation.

I haven't played any of the PAL versions of the Anthology games and even then I didn't play VI all the way through, but the loading times really weren't bad at all in the US release of V. The translation is obviously not great but it frankly didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game at all. I like stupid, campy stuff, I guess.

Origins since it actually updated the graphics and gameplay instead of just being straight ports.

Is also still worth a play today, unlike the other 2 which even then where shitty and inferior to just emulating the originals, because of loading times. No, the FMVs absolutely do not make up for it.

>> No.8973667

>>8973639
You're either as patient as I am, or people are exaggerating the loading issues. All I can say is, PAL FF VI has faster loading times than FF IV and Chrono Trigger.

>> No.8973671

>>8973667
I think it’s a little bit of both. The load times were maybe a second and a half long if I remember correctly.
The load times in Chrono Trigger really are that bad, unfortunately. Never tried the FFIV port so I can’t really speak for that one.

>> No.8973684

>>8973671
Oh yeah, Chrono Trigger was really bad. FF IV was pretty bad too, if I remember correctly. I only play Origins and FF VI on PSX and my memories might be a bit fuzzy.
Origins at least is a safe bet, you can't go wrong with it, in my opinion. Still my favorite version of FF1.

I beat one and two. I couldn't figure out three, mainly how to force a shift in alignment with my main party. It didn't help I was running a difficulty patch that kinda removes some of the bullshit and balances things out better, so some things didn't work as they would in the original version.
