Been playing Hamster's port of Gradius on PS4. I falsificato a 1-all today (I saved state at the beginning of the level seven) and now it's time to learn how to put on my own pants instead of letting your mom do it.
I'm glad checkpoints aren't a thing anymore.

hug the top left of the screen, you don't even need to shoot anything. if you have some options place them under you to score some free points from the rocks

This is exactly how you do it. If you have options and missiles at that point and shot most of the stuff on the way there then you’re pretty much guaranteed an extra life either while you’re blowing up the rocks from the volcano or during the boss fight

I think Gradius might be one of the most consistent series in terms of quality even including spin off series like Salamander and Parodius, it's truly amazing. I would like to recommend Gradius 2 MSX in the Salamander Collection on PSP, this version by M2 gives the game the smooth scrolling it so desperately needed and lets the game shine, a shame MSX 1 and 3 never got the same treatment.

>> No.8961840

>>8961698
It's because Gradius 2 on the MSX was the only one that was truly original. Gradius 1 was more or less a port of the first Gradius, while GOFER no Yabou Episode II was mostly based on the arcade version of Gradius II. The PC Engine version of Gradius I does have the extra strages from the MSX Gradius though.

>> No.8961975

>>8961840
Regardless the MSX version are unique enough that I wish they all got the M2 treatment, thankfully MSX fans have made patches for smooth scrolling in a lot of these titles like Salamander and Nemesis 3

Friendly reminder that Gradius V is the weakest entry due to all the liberties which Treasure took, such as...

>several unskippable cutscenes
>forgettable OST besides the remixes
>gimmicky and overpowered control of multiples
>checkpoints should be forced but are off by default
>lacking in organic stages/enemies; too much emphasis on Cores
>last level is a rehash of the second stage for retarded story reasons
>have to unlock Edit Mode which Shield, Ripple, etc. are locked behind
>shite rank system compared to IV's absolutely perfect mechanics
>doubles the shot limit making it easier to shoot things
>1x1 Vic Viper hitbox panders to tranmaku fans
>overlong with atrociously poor pacing
>option hunter rarely shows up

Which Gradius mayor do you like best? My choice would have to be Tetran, runner-up is the Core that does the zig-zag lasers.
