This should probably have a narrative ellipsis at the end.
When he gets there...

Also, an ellipsis should have a space between the end and the next word (if any). You don't necessarily need to put spaces between the dots, but you can go with what looks best or what best matches the on-screen text (if any).

If an error has supposedly been fixed but still remains in the next version, then it needs to be mentioned again. Nobody would know that without you mentioning it. I'm following the rules, and I hope that you'll do the same. The point of editing in this way is to have an open discussion about what needs to be changed. Everyone should be following the same process. We need to refer to the latest version of the script ONLY and not to what you or anybody else does without the knowledge of the group.

Somebody mentioned this in the last thread: Can you include time markers in future scripts? You could list the approximate time every couple of minutes, or use pastebin's highlighter function, or both. It really would improve the efficiency of editing. If people could follow along more easily while watching and listening to the raw, then they would be more likely to take the time to edit. They would also be less likely to suggest improper edits which mess with the pace of the dialogue.

>I'll try putting time tags next project, but the only person it really benefits is Abunai
Speaking from an editing standpoint, it would definitely benefit me. If I can only find small chunks of time to edit, it would be very helpful to be able to jump right to a certain spot in the raw episode to hear exactly how a specific line or section is spoken. Otherwise, I would have to do a lot of clumsy searching. Time tags would greatly improve my efficiency, especially for longer scripts.

It really is weird sometimes. IIRC, I blew through Yoshi's Island in under three hours, and I just now beat the original Mega Man in under an hour. Yeah, there's a bundle of fun shit you can do, even without tool-assisting (read: using emulators for frame-perfect timing and "clairvoyance").

There's a simple glitch in Yoshi's Island that allows you to skip stages like a motherfucker and finish the game in roughly six minutes (although I think you need to take apart your controller for it to work on a console, since you need to press up and down at the same time): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dKis1uusXY

I always wondered what would happen if Arino knew of a glitch similar to that and pulled it off. They'd probably just go "OK, now beat the game regularly", but if he pulled it out close to the end when it became clear he couldn't beat the game regularly, it'd make for a great ending.

>ellipsis rules confusing me
Even language experts get confused by them. There are several different ways to use them, and the rules have changed over time. Also, different languages have different rules.

This picture >>902608 shows the proper ways to use them at the end of a sentence or thought (when trailing off) and when starting to speak with hesitation or awkwardness.

When marking an extended pause within a sentence... they should be used like commas, attached to the preceding word and followed by a single space.

When marking an omission of part of a quote, they should be bordered by a space ... on each side.

When quoting a portion of something not occurring at the start of the quoted material, "...you should attach them to the first word quoted." You'll often see this usage on television news programs.

Using spaces between the dots of an ellipsis is usually not necessary, but there are differing opinions about this.

TL;DR: Shit's confusing.

The MLA has different recommendations for different circumstances. If brackets are necessary for clarity, then they should be used. That's more common in written material than it is in on-screen quotes.

>> No.903125

>>903097
>>903108
This is from Wikipedia:

>The Modern Language Association (MLA), however, used to indicate that an ellipsis must include spaces before and after each dot in all uses. If an ellipsis is meant to represent an omission, square brackets must surround the ellipsis to make it clear that there was no pause in the original quote: [ . . . ]. Currently, the MLA has removed the requirement of brackets in its style handbooks. However, some maintain that the use of brackets is still correct because it clears confusion.

>The MLA now indicates that a three-dot, spaced ellipsis ( … ) should be used for removing material from within one sentence within a quote. When crossing sentences (when the omitted text contains a period, so that omitting the end of a sentence counts), a four-dot, spaced (except for before the first dot) ellipsis (. . . . ) should be used. When ellipsis points are used in the original text, ellipsis points that are not in the original text should be distinguished by enclosing them in square brackets (e.g. "text […] text").

It looks like the rules are different when quoting text which ITSELF contained ellipses. Holy shit, this is giving me a headache.

Yeah. I just watched a few minutes, and they really went all out with the gags. And that was only from what I could notice. The best part so far is when Arino is talking to Abe about his cooking, this pops up on screen:

>Translator Note: Mirin is a type of saki that contains additional sugar that is commonly used in Japanese cuisine. Abe-san is cooking Kansai style which means that the mirin will be applied to the food at a late stage and the alcohol will not boil off. It's really tasty, too. Yum!

The killer? It pops up for about a second only.

I wanted to ask folk's opinions on some of the style choices I made, specifically:

- When Arino says "Eeeehhhhh?", I sub it like that, where as other groups use "Whhhhhaaaaaat?". Personally I don't like that (I 'hear' the stretched what in a stoner voice), but what do you think?

- When he's gasping and exclaiming I sub it ("Whoawhoawhoa" and "Crapcrapcrap"), what do you think of that, would you like to see it done differently?

>> No.910158

>>910116
>"Eeeehhhhh?"
If I'm not mistaken, he's saying the word "Ee?" in those cases. Personally, I think that translating it as "Eh?" (or an elongated form) might make people think that we're actually leaving it untranslated. I think that "Huh?" or MAYBE "What?" would be better, depending on the tone and circumstances. If you do elongate either of those two, I would choose only one letter to stretch out per word. "Huhhh?" and "Huuuh?" both look fine to me. You could use whichever feels right for the line. "Whaaat?" would also be fine in certain cases.

>"Whoawhoawhoa" and "Crapcrapcrap"
These are both fine with me. He does run his exclamations together a lot, and I can't think of a better way to convey that. When "ABUNAI!" becomes "ABUNABUNABUN!" or something similar, SA usually writes "Careful! Careful! Careful!" or "Watch out! Watch out!" or whatever seems to fit the tone and level of panic. I would trust your judgment on those.

We know how painful it can be to go so long without more GCCX, and unfortunately life happens and can slow a project down, but not to worry!
New up-and-comers VR-GCCX are here to help you get that fix! So far they have subtitled two Revenge episodes, Legend of the Mystical Ninja and Genji and Heike Clans. Check em out and keep your eyes open for more releases from these guys.

>SAGCCX is in no danger and has no plans of disbanding. Dont worry, we are just in a slow patch and are happy about this new team picking up some of the slack.

Personally I vote for sticking with 'eeeeeeehhhh?!' unless he's saying ( forgive my bad romanji ) 'Naaaaniiii?' I wouldn't go with 'whahhaaaat'
as for 'Huuuuuuuuhhhh?' while it subjectively may make more stylistic sense. It's a completely different set of sounds, really it's a universal confused sound and doesn't need a fancy translation.

What? Can you clarify? Also, I never said talking about weed getting you sent to prison, just having/using etc. Japan's strict on drugs, but it has freedom of speech, I can talk about weed as much as I like.

Some Japanese people find yaeba cute...

Haruna Kojima is a really popular member, she's in magazines and TV a lot. They used her to introduce the other two, then sh was gone, ha. And given the way AKB works, those two will likely vanish in a year or two.

Super rainy/cloudy weather kept breaking up my signal too, there's way of confirming a good signal.

I pay for those channels goddmnit, give me on demand access via the internet for when the weather sucks or I'm traveling!
