If SNES CD came to market in a timely fashion, it would have succeeded and disrupted the rest of gaming history. Playstation wouldn't have been made and Saturn and N64 would be even competitors like the SNES and Mega Drive.

I feel like any CD versions of classic Nintendo franchises would have been half-baked. Nintendo has generally been pretty weak on multimedia products

>> No.8930037

It's a good for Nintendo that they didn't. It would have flopped. These console drive attachments had low sales, few games, and pissed off the highest spending customers. It could have even killed Nintendo because they didn't have another successful console after the SNES until the Wii that wasn't a handheld.

It wouldn't have been so bad if the N64 had been a CD console. The CD add-on was a big success for the PC Engine because it was the first to do it and it was groundbreaking at the time. But it was a bit late for that in 1993 which is why the Sega CD was a flop.

>> No.8932217

>>8926751
None of the other CD add ons made anything super mind-blowing (Not saying there aren't good games on those platforms, just nothing that couldn't be done on cartridge with slightly worse music)

Nintendo should have gone CD for N64 tho

It wouldn't be good but that's not the point. The point is PSX wouldn't happen.

Imagine being such an attention seeking child that you'd embarrass yourself posting such ignorance. inb4 the cartridge can be as big as the add on and cost as much.

Starblade couldn't be done on a cartridge, it's all FMV but gives the illusion of a really advanced 3D rail shooter. Closest thing is I guess Starfox which is actually 3D but maybe not quite as advanced. Same can be said for Silpheed which uses FMV's for the backgrounds to give the illusion of really huge 3D worlds.

Popful Mail on SEGA CD is also something they could never pull off on the Super Famicom version due to its limited storage space. I guess to be fair something like Terminator or Rondo could've easily been ported to SNES, but then the audio tracks and FMV cutscenes are half the fun of the CD consoles. Thankfully we do have MSU-1 patches now, so we can have or SNES CD, sort of.

I only wish they hadn't skipped the 32-bit console, even without Sony they could've made a really good one, but instead we got the N64. While the GBA is technically 32-bit it's still a far cry from PS1 and Saturn. And we didn't get cool stuff like Yoshi's Island 2 until the DS

The SNES CD's performance would have been irrelevant, the most significant thing about it would be Nintendo not coping with cartridges on their real next-gen console and getting cucked by important developers afterwards.
