It's not already for Speccy? Would suggest Amigar as the next most infamous option, but it should be on a non-American computer to keep the meme consistent. Amstrad or Acorn being discussed?

Don't forget to make a version for the American's Speccy.

It's literally a playable Spectrum game, you can download it from OP's link.

I'm curious as to whether anyone has actually beat the game or not, with or without save states. I think you need to collect 350(?) gems to make it to the last room.
>>8924308
Anyone have any ideas for this? I was imagining we keep the ZX Spectrum as our platform and make a wizardry clone, that should be easy enough right?

It unironically has substantially better movement / jumping mechanics than any game of its nature I've tried on the Speccy.

Do you have any idea how much better programming and debugging tools we have today than in the 80s?

>code in Z80 asm on your PC with a cross assembler
>can use an emulator for step-by-step execution and debugging none of which was possible back then

Back then, at worst you might literally have to write your code on paper, calculate jump offsets in your head, and enter it into the Spectrum as hex numbers (usually by writing a BASIC program and having a table of hex values POKEed into memory). Best case you worked for Ocean and might have access to a cross assembler on a workstation, but still nowhere near as sophisticated or easy to use as modern tools.

The tape format makes the Spectrum not super-well cut out for RPGs (although some exist) but an RPG is also not easy to develop and I've almost never seen a homebrew one; homebrews are just about always platformers or shmups.

I'm aware; I was just talking about subjective "Game Feel", not making a statement about anything.

>> No.8925015

>>8924943
I feel like the 48kb of tape is plenty for a simple RPG. Might be able to save memory by doing vector graphics similar to Mystery House. You could do something similar to the original Zniggy development where you have a big map of rooms that anons can add stuff to, along with a list of enemies and such. Could even make a simple sort of scripting language for encounters and spells.

RPGs are hard even for professional programmers. A lot of them even the classics are prone to bugs or features not working the way they're supposed to.

Zniggy needs a loose NES adaptation ala Boulderdash or Monty Doki Doki no Daidassou, the game that's extremely loosely based on Monty on the Run. Since it's a flip screen game and NESmaker only makes flip screen games, that would be the ideal means of creating the game, only issue is that it outputs as UNROM512 games. I believe even 128kb UNROM would be too much for a Zniggy port.

Zniggy 1 was only completed because some kind and useful anon made tools that let other less useful anons easily bang out some maps and sprites within parameters. These projects always need someone with brains leading it.
