How is this game?
I have never played it before but i know there is a remaster coming out this year.
Is it more like Quake/Doom or trying to be realistic like half-life?
Was it better than half-life?

>> No.8910326

It's more or less Duke 3D with actual story and level progression.

>> No.8910330

It goes for a more realistic approach at least in how you score damage. Human enemies take a ton of headshot damage, so you can fight them with the starting pistol well ibto the endgame.

I played it back in 2017, so I don't really remember a lot of the setpieces. You start by deploying out of a helicopter and fighting some bank robbers. I think you have to chase someone through a construction site, and then it's off to some labs or something?

The villainess, Elexis Sinclaire, taunts you throughout, but you never even fight her, the final boss is some big monster or mech whatever. Elexis escapes in the end. There's an official nude model of her somewhere in the game files - you can us external tools to swap it with her original model.

I think it's 6~8 hours in length and there's an expansion pack.

They tried to reboot it already with Sin Episodes: Emergence, but that went nowhere. They only released Episode 1. The only things I recall from the reboot are that Elexis is now based off a human model instead of having that comic book look, and it was made in the same engine as HL2.

Good luck beating it through the end.
It's obvious the game was rushed in development for the early Christmas deadline and it shows.

The combat does not at all feel like Duke 3D. D3D wasn't half as hitscan-instakill-ish. It also wasn't as fast. Levels aren't nearly as massive and multitiered due to what PCs could load in at once with idtech2 and the load times were already too long.

Reminder that the reason Sin Episodes failed isn't because it's a bad game but because it was a Steam-exclusive in 2006
Episodes would've been successful had it been released a half decade later

>> No.8910446

You can steal all of the supervillainess's funds at the very start of the game.

>there is a remaster coming out this year.
Why can't they let our favorite games rest in peace. Why must they desecrate their remains.

>>8910330
>Human enemies take a ton of headshot damage, so you can fight them with the starting pistol well ibto the endgame.
Especially considering that you get to dual-wield them as soon as you down the first mook trying to kill you.

It's a charming but mediocre game.
Pros:
-damage localization
-boobs physics
-humour (not Borderland cringe stuff, but geek-ish humour on cork panels)
-lots of optional and funny/useless things to do
-some things you do can have minor impact on other levels
-the vilain made me bimbo fetishist when it was released

Cons:
-most levels are very bland (city, sewers, facility, underground base...)
-boring enemies
-bullshit difficulty in some parts
-terrible physics during the handful of short vehicle phases
-no real soundtrack most of the time (or is it a bug?)
-meh AI, ultra scripted (I remember in magazines, it was said it was some super advanced AI that would regroup, back off and heal if necessary, etc. Turns out the enemies stay where they are or walk toward you)
-the vilain made me a bimbo fetishist

Dark Messiah-like traps look pretty cool. Doubt that vehicles would play a big part anyway but having a few sections with them would be nice.
The models are absolute ass, even that of Elexis. And not in a good way.

It's a mixed bag for me. I like the characters, environments and movement (it's really fast though, so be prepared for that) and I loved the dam level (I think it was only unlocked if you failed the previous level in the water treatment facility?) but there's something sloppy about the execution. Might be the blurry textures or the lack of "humpf" from the arsenal or some very ugly models (the quality of pic related is rare)... IDK

>>8910330
>You start by deploying out of a helicopter and fighting some bank robbers. I think you have to chase someone through a construction site, and then it's off to some labs or something?
You're tasked with supporting cops during a bank heist and end up following the thugs after their escape, collecting the stolen money on your way. Mancini unfortunately runs into Elexis early and punishes his initiative by using her chemicals to turn him into a monster. Still running after the thugs through a construction site, Blade eventually meets the transformed Mancini in the subway and after the fight and a debrief, learns that the monster was Mancini, mutated by a massive dose of a new drug that recently emerged in the streets. Suspecting that it is coming from Sinclaire's labs, Blades goes undercover to collect evidences.
Then it's a giant chase against Elexis who's not only a little mad against Blade, but also insane as she plans to turn the whole city into monsters. From what I recall the following missions all involve trying to prevent her from having the upper hand until we finally go to the source of it all, arresting her in the Sinclaire estate.
And Blade is still a naughty boy who may or may not have learned his lesson.

>>8910534
I liked the nods to Half-Life and Valve in Blood II also, during the level intermissions... although I can't recall what the message was exactly. HL took everyone by surprise.

SIN reminds me a lot of Clive Barker's Undying in that while both have a solid start and good middle section, they would have been more fondly remembered if it wasn't so obvious that the development for the last quarter or so of the game was rushed to meet deadlines. The result was poor level design with too much empty space, dodgy platforming sections and lackluster endings

Nightdive are releasing a remaster sometime in the future and I want to hope that they'll fix some of the more glaring problems with the game, but the 'purists' out there will likely complain if they do so. It's been delayed a lot and there's not much information out about it for now, so let's see what happens.

And it has almost nothing to do with the game, it's just a painfully generic action OVA. JC, who provided plenty of banter in the game, dies right at the beginning. John is now a silent 'hulk' character and may have been represented by a wooden plank, because that's how interesting his personality is. Elexis Sinclaire, who is the only somewhat interesting character, has had her personality stripped down too. etc. etc.

The animation and art design are OK, but the soundtrack is actually really good. It was wasted on this.

i dont know about their other "remasters", but the quake remaster was so god awful that it makes me question their competency. its not like i want remasters to be bad, but it seems they wrap the old game engines in their own bullshit called KEX and somehow increase the system requirements of the game by 400x for no reason. the only thing that might be debatably beneficial is its incompatibility with most community mods filtering retards and thus less people shit up the community spaces (which cause certain toxic members to chimp out, so not worth the drama)

I agree its an awful remaster.
Quake on Nintendo switch lags badly when playing horde mode or the new machine games episode.
My 10 year old laptop can play Arcane Dimensions just fine and its much more impressive.

I played it recently and thought it was incredibly bland after the first few levels (which were merely good, not great). So bland in fact that I dropped it and went back and finished Daikatana, which is a significantly rougher game, but never managed to feel boring or repetitive. Between SiN, Heavy Metal Fakk 2, Judge Dredd vs Death, and Star Trek: Elite Force 2, Ritual Entertainment was a mediocre developer honestly. Evil Genius is the only game of theirs that I really love, and even it has a lot of rough edges.

Hypothetically, if I had the leaked source code to SiN and wanted to release a modern Linux port, what would be a good name for it? I have two candidates in mind so far, one "safe" and one "edgy".

1. Elexis
2. Dominatrix

>It's not like they took away your access to the original release either
no, it's not, but they also shouldn't have made a fucking "remaster" (literally just a shittier source port than what the community has been making for 20 years) for a game thats 25 years old require windows 10, a 3.4+ GHz processor, and 8 gigabytes of ram. that's some of the worst optimisation known to man
>you people love to bitch and moan about completely option re-releases
me shitting on them charging for a shitty source port and locking new content behind said shitty source port (because the new expansions were very non-standard and thus dont work with the existing source ports) is entirely justified

It went nowhere because they assumed that using the episodic model would allow them to reduce the workload with assets, reusing content they produced for the previous episodes... except they didn't think that they would have to create tons of original content for the 1st episode... somehow.
