The only ones I've actually beaten are:

>Crisis Force
>Over Horizon
>Gun*Nac
>Dragon Spirit

still suck on stage 22 in 1943 and Recca is.... Recca.

>> No.8911018

Parodius maybe? More of a TG-16 guy when it comes to that stuff

>> No.8911020

>>8911009
Play on arcade hardware then. These games are terrible ports due to sprite limitations. Use a TG-16 instead if you want a good console shmup experience

at least a good half of all NES/Famicom shmups aren't on arcade

>> No.8911074

The NES version of 1943 is really good, but it's super hard, and will destroy your hand/arm if you aren't using a turbo controller.

>> No.8911131

>>8911074
yeah I went like,
>fuck this, turbo time
after just a couple of stages. In my case it sacrifices the charge attack because I only have 2 buttons but it's not a big loss.

Is arcade actually harder? I tried it a long time ago and it seemed the same but I prefer the music and graphics on Famicom, looks a bit messy on arcade. Never tried the Sharp version but it looks good too.
Anyway probably the hardesr version is the 3DS classic version at full speed.

Recca - Nuff said
The Guardian Legend - Shmups+action game by Compile but you can play just the shmup levels with a password.(The action levels are fun play them)
Gun Nac - Probably the best NES shmup to leave Japan, one of Compile's best.
Zanac - Early Compile game so it can actually get brutal at points.
Crisis Force - Konami shmup from the 80/90s, so it's classic.
S.C.A.T - A shmup by Natsume who made a lot late but great NES/Famicom games and this one is right up there.
Zombie Nation - Not good but worth playing for the absurdity of it.
Legendary Wings - Better then the arcade game which is kinda meh.
Sky Shark - Ok port but an awesome soundtrack by that guy who did the NES Pictionary soundtrack.
Dragon Spirit: The New Legend - More of a remix then a port and it's damn good.
Battle Formula - A car shmup by Sunsoft, it's great.
Burai Fighter - From the same devs as the G.I Joe NES games.
Lifeforce - A port so good they ported it back to the arcade.
Stinger aka Twinbee 2 - A weird sequel to Twinbee that's NES exclusive, good.
Twinbee 3 - A fantastic sequel to Stinger that's NES exclusive, great.
