Bloodlines is definitely a follow up of 4 with its use of environmental gimmicks and directional whips; but it made better use of those than 4.

Bloodlines is a good game, but it feels cheap. There's no weight to whipping anything or enemies dying. You can barely tell if you're invulnerable. Autoscrollers up the ass. Limited continues in fucking Castlevania. It's weird.

It's definitely outclassed by 1, 3, and Rondo. Maybe even Super too.

Only Dracula's 2nd form is remotely challenging. Also if you die you go back &forth between screens to grind for gems and thus upgrade your weapon.

I can now honestly say that Bloodlines is more difficult than Dracula XX. I used to be able to beath both games while only getting hit once or twice throughout the entire game. I hadn't attempted that in a long time, but I can still beat Dracula XX without dying yet I really struggle in Bloodlines.
