Wonderboy >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Adventure Island of shit

>> No.8903218

AI just showcases how the typical NES game especially early ones was nowhere near as well-thought out as SMB in controls or physics. It's sometimes underappreciated just how good the controls/physics in SMB are, not only do most NES platformers fail to match it but even many SNES ones.

Having superior controls does no make smb the better game.

>> No.8903234

They're not trying to do the same thing because one is an arcade port that just has linear levels comprised of you going around shooting random junk, the other was designed for a home console and thus it has elements like exploration and multiple paths through a level.

Funny, because I hate them.

I'd attribute it to Nintendo knowing their own hardware well enough to program quality controls. It's funny because the one time they didn't (N64, because the hardware was loaded out from Silicone Graphics and the development software initially didn't have Japanese instructions) they still came out the gate with Mario 64 using only 10% of the console's power.

and it also has elements of exploration because there are a lot of hidden stuff to find in levels, and sometimes it's mandatory to find them.

Anyway,
>comprised of you going around shooting random junk

He didn't play it or he'd know the main mechanic isn't the shooting, it's the jumping.

>> No.8903724

>>8903593
The real man issue with super is how short is it. The mechanics are different but they fit the game and are a welcome change of pace after 2 and 3 being literally identical, besides I wouldn't want to run too fast with such a small FOV.

I respect Wonder Boy for being the original but the music is actually an annoying short loop that gets tiring fast, opposed to the catchy (and longer) music track from Adventure Island.

You hate ALL of Nintendo? ALL of NES? ALL of game boy?
.... I'd say just find another hobby. I could understand not liking Nintendo 1st party stuff (maybe, it'd also be weird since there's a lot of variety and polish within Nintendo, even if you don't like Mario for being too popular or whatever), but hating the entire NES or GB libraries... nah, you don't like vidya.

>> No.8904695

>>8903581
Most third parties wouldn't have been able to pack as much content into an NROM game either. A typical early side scroller like Ninja Hattori-kun feels simple and limited.

Chubby Cherub. TOSE almost had something going there. It looks good and has a lot of content for NROM but the controls just fucking blow.

>> No.8904735

>>8904706
I'm now curious what was the last NROM game to be released. Evidently Namco's version of Ms. Pac-Man is it, but that is such a pathetic excuse of a conversion I wouldn't be surprised if it was just Pac-Man with a different CHR ROM.

>> No.8904772

The last NROM game was probably some unlicensed Taiwanese shit. I believe the last licensed ones were the two different Ms. Pac-Mans (released 1989 and '93).

>> No.8904780

think about it as same deal with the Atari 2600. only Atari themselves and Activision (former Atari programmers) knew how to really do stuff with it, most third parties just made unplayable garbage.

>> No.8905148

Ai is awesome and has a whole bunch of nerve racking moments. I love it. Any stage from 7-2 is total ass though. Especially an ice stage.

Smb1 is cool and very casual and gets boring after a while.

I loved all the ai games on nes even the first one on snes. I hate the metroidvania ones though, sue me. Pointless busywork.

First party Nintendo games are fun, really fun, and have top-notch controls. Much of the third party stuff especially from the earlier days of the NES is not. even Konami and Capcom's early stuff can be painful to play; they only get really good in 1990 onward. Castlevania and Mega Man 1 are stiff as fuck and do not have good controls at all.

>> No.8905310

For those who are wondering, there's an autist who samefags and exchanges post with himself about Famicom/NES games and how a lot of it is shovelware or whatever. He's somehow hoping that his effort will make /vr/ hate the NES.

I can understand Castlevania being stiff, but Mega Man? Mega Man is like the antithesis of stiff.
A sliding scale of jumping would look like
>Castlevania: maximum stiffness
>SMB1
>SMB3: fluid/momentum
>SMW
>Mega Man: negative stiffness, twitchy

If I have to be completely honest I played way more AI as a kid and the only reason was the music and how it had a skateboard. I was just that kid.
