Top kek I never realized this. Why was Sega unable to release games on both Saturn and Dreamcast? Sony was smart enough to put cross-gen games on both PS1 and PS2.
Fun fact: PS1 and N64 both got Pro Skater 3 but no Sega console did LOL

Saturn is okay but PS1 just had a much stronger lineup on all fronts, shmups included. PS1 gives me Cotton 100%, Harmful Park, Philosoma, Einhander, Raiden, Gekioh Shooting King in actual English and with rumble support. Saturn gives me almost nothing but arcade ports which vary in quality from good to bad, half of them being Japanese exclusives since it did so poorly in the west. PS1 gives me three Crash games, three Spyro games, and three Gex games. Saturn gives me NiGHTS, a couple of sad Sonic spin-offs, and Mr. Bones

It's also very hard for me to care about Saturn when the CDX exists. It's not 32-bit, but SEGA was better at 16-bit anyway. Dreamcast was also better when it comes to 3D games. After experiencing it for myself, Saturn kind of just comes off as the weird middle child that did a little of both and wasn't that great at either.

Making games for N64 was expensive AND the console was marketed as State of the Art 3D gaming, which, in 1996, it definitely was.
Porting 2D games to N64 was expensive and people weren't very eager to pay for 2D games as they were for 3D games back then. It just made more sense to port them to the cheaper PS and SS.
In general, Capcom just sucked Sony's dick during 5th gen, while Sega got all the good 2D arcade ports (mostly in Japan only)

>>8899551
>barely a game
How even? One of the things that stuck out the most the first time I played it was how responsive the controls were. It has levels full of interactive stuff, from things you need to collect to side-missions where you can interact with NPCs, all without dialogue boxes. It's also timed and sort of a "free-roam" racing game. All about it is ludo. I'd like to see you argument your claim that it's "barely a game".
Sorry I get so defensive but I think NiGHTS is unfairly hated. I can't remember the last time I saw someone not shittalking it and I think at this point it's pure parroting, and not people who actually gave it an honest chance.

FUck off with that

>> No.8899625

>>8899612
>the visuals are garish
It's colorful and has a neat dreamy art direction. I guess it's subjective but NiGHTS was always praised for its visuals and sound direction, it's the gameplay aspect which most people didn't "get" because they expected a platformer, Sega's response to SM64, and this was a totally different thing, more on par with Pilotwings, even.
>and the game doesnt feel good
"doesn't feel good" is extremely subjective and, again, most people would disagree, at least I do. The controls are responsive, it's one hell of a "feel good" experience, whether you like the way it's designed or not, just controlling NiGHTS feels good.
>you can do whatever you want maaan you can do the loop and uh... do the looooop man.

The problem with it being an arcade game is needing to memorise everything. You'll make it to the 2nd level of Metal Slug and maybe even the 2nd-3rd stage of Sega Rally on your first go. With Nights you're fucked and it's not fun trying to figure it out.

>> No.8899919

Panzer Dragoon series is one of the best ever. Rail shooters and the rpg are both great. Starfox 64 is the only other rail shooter that holds up. Dragonforce and shiningforce 3 are great tactical rpgs. Sega wins the shmups battle hands down. Dodonpachi, Radiant Silvergun, Batsugun, hyper duel, soukyugurentai, fantasy zone. Light gun games go to the saturn with virtua cop and house of the dead. Cant beat die hard arcade and guardian heroes for beatemups. Nights is great. Sega Rally is the best game of its type except maybe wave race on n64. Superscaler arcade ports. Powerslave is the best single player fps released before goldeneye its like a metroid prime 0. Virtua fighter 2 and virtua on are both great 3d fighters. Its got all the capcom and snk fighters. Steep slope sliders kicks cool boarders ass. The only thing the saturn is really missing is a great 3d platformer other than Tomb Raider. Burning Rangers was underwhelming. N64 is the system for 3d platformers. The playstation has the better version of In the Hunt, and it has Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7 and tomb raider sequels. And plenty of jrpgs. Crash, Spyro and ape escape pale in comparison to n64 platformers. So they all have good points and bad

It's actually one of my favorite games on there after Sonic and NiGHTS. Don't agree 100% with those recommended games though as there's no mention of Sengoku Blade, Hyper Duel, Purikura Daisakusen, SEGA Ages (literally a better compilation than Jam), or Sonic 3D, and Street Fighter Collection is a better value than Alpha 3 which you can just play on Dreamcast. I still prefer PS1 overall, but Saturn does have a few fun titles. Glad to see Magic Knight Rayearth on that list too, I had fun with that game
