This is a beautiful game, I cried at the ending.

Lufia & the Fortress of Doom doesn't come up often in gen4 RPG discussions, but it's absolutely worthwhile for the OST and for the game's final act. The "Fast Walker" mod is recommended for people who don't want to use emulator fast-forward, or perhaps even some who do. There is also the "Restored" mod which incorporates Fast Walker, removes censorship, and generally improves content quality. I didn't play with any mods. While I don't like censorship, I didn't know what was censored, so it didn't bother me until later!

There is no question that Lufia 2 is a massive upgrade, and the true classic of the series, but having just finished Lufia 1, I can tell you it enhances the L2 experience greatly because of the way the story in the two games relate to one another (that's all I'll say).

Lmao, i can easily tell you're a normalfag. Lufia is a shit series thay gets praise for no apparent reason. Only worthwhile game is perhaps TLR and that one is barely passable at best
I bet you think chrono trigger is the best rpg to have been created

Don't listen to the try hard fags op. I really like this game. Played the shit out of it when I was 7-8, when it was new. The music is fucking keno. Good shit

Liked the game back then, I still have the working cart in pristine condition, but I could never take all the grinding involved in moving forward.
Tried to play it recently on an emulator speeding battles 15x and still couldn't bear having to win 200 battles to level up and gain like 4HP from it.
Great graphics, great music, likeable characters, shit programming.
Glad you had fun though

It was a bit of a slog at times but I still found it compelling. Finding the 7 pieces of Aluminum was a huge PITA. I can still hear that intro theme in my head just thinking about this game.

Why did Lufia as a series die?

The games after Lufia 2 are not very good. The GBC game initially seems very promising but is boring as hell.

Some people advocate for 3 and 4, but I agree. They're really nothing to comment about. They also seem almost completely separate, but I never looked to see if they were actually completely different people.

I kind of liked the DS one. It's just Ys with the Lufia plotline. It was fun enough. They made one of the failure thief characters into a girl.

Great game when I was a kid only thing that messed me up real good was the 3 towers where you had to go back to Medan for the ruby.

The GBC and DS games were developed by the same studio (Neverland) and directed by Masahide Miyata, just like the SNES games. But you're right, after L2, they feel like spin-offs instead of proper series entries. It's possible that Miyata just didn't know where to go with it. To back this up, the GBC game's plot is basically a watered-down version of Lufia 1's, despite being an explicit sequel.

Lufia 1's plot premise is genius and deserves to be known as one of the all-time great tropes of JRPG history. But to just re-use it is shameful. Come up with something else, man.

To add to this, Lufia 3 retcons essential elements of Lufia 1's ending, just so they could tell the exact same story again. Unbelievable really.

I have only played the II. Fun game, Ancient Cave is a wild thing to try on. Story is too cheesy and Tia is the best girl.

oh yeah I forgot about those three towers too. That was another part of the game that just seemed to go on forever

That is where I stopped for a while. It's kind of a brilliant part of the game because it forces you to explore one continent in a non-linear way to solve a single puzzle that encompasses multiple towns and dungeons. The issue is that travel and battles are too slow, so it doesn't feel like the puzzle it's supposed to be (unless you use emulator fast-forward). You don't want to skip battles with sweet water, either, because bosses will severely wreck you if you are under-leveled.

Lufia 1 is such an interesting and underrated game, warts and all.

Yeah, I remember getting to that point and wandering around forever and not being able to progress to Elfrea, then dropping it. Picked it back up maybe 6 months later and was able to figure it out and move forward. I later heard there was some pretty rough translation issues that made it kinda cryptic to understand, but when I figured it out it was so satisfying. It was a great game for a kid that didn't have many games.

Guys I have a question I had a 100% complete Lufia 2 save on my original cart and one day the save files vanished. I checked the battery and the voltage was at 3.03 volts. I want to play it again but I’m concerned that it will die on me again. Should I just play it or change the battery?

>> No.8895118

Forgot to add I can’t be bothered changing the battery because I’m too lazy. Will it die on me soon?

Based Lufia appreciators. Good to see people can appreciate Lufia 1 in spite of its jank.

I'd like to think the cancelled PSX entry Ruins Chasers had more ambitious plans for the overarching story than what The Legend Returns eventually became - The original story blurb for Ruins Chasers mentions Arek teaming up with the Sinistrals for a final confrontation on Doom Island, humanitys technology having advanced to the steam age, some weird religious cult that controls the world after having allegedely saved it during a cataclysmic event, etc.

When the PSX entry fell through, I think what Neverland did was put the game on ice and made TLR as essentially a stopgap title until they would have the chance to make Ruins Chasers properly. Which, unfortunately, never happened.

Miyata did confirm he still has the story for Ruins Chasers written down and saved on his PC during a fan event a while back.

Most certainly. It would have been a good timeline to live in.

>>8895708
Lufia has almost no clout, so unfortunately that is not likely.

I'm not a fan of this game's battle system, innovative as it is. That said, I also think larger parties are better than three-person shit. Suikoden does it well with six people.
