Is the Xbox version worth playing today? I would just play on PC but I want controller support

I think so, though the graphical emulation on the later-gen Xbox models is annoying (excessive blur, etc.). But it's still the same game you remember.

>> No.8893259

>>8893159
it's just the initial load isn't it? cause the game saves the world state so your save just gets bigger and bigger as you play. I remember it being pretty tolerable once you're actually in game.

>> No.8893273

It's most fun to play this on a Series X.

I was able to play through the xbox version multiple times and it works. Just remember you're kinda on a timer before the game starts getting too buggy and some NPCs disappear into the void. NPC standing in doorways blocking your path can also be a pain, if you just jump at them you should slide past. Though when the drift into a wall and become inaccessible it can be a gamebreaking issue. Its playable on modern xbox through backwards compatibility mode if you want to avoid load times.

>> No.8893292

I wonder how hard it would be to implement the Xbox UI in OpenMW.

>>8893159
iirc this is fixed if you're playing it on xbox one

>> No.8893296

>>8893152
Long load times (initial one especially), plus after a while you’ll need to transfer your save file to PC and declutter it using some tools or you’ll run into massive game breaking bugs later on. The less memory the game has, the more it starts acting up. Beyond that, comfy as fuck.

>>8893152
I want to play it but my local shop only has the base game version. I've been playing it on my series s, but from what I understand it's doing some emulation enhancements that you can't turn off so I'm still gonna get a copy for my original xbox.
Still pretty fun from what I've done, I honestly like the controls they use for the controller and I'm surprised nobody has modded it into PC yet.

Nah I think is better to play it using the OpenMW engine.

It feels so good to be able to see things at a distance.

This. And over-the-shoulder third person camera, and they're implementing useful bits of the Xbox UI. It's fully playable with a controller right now.
Add on distant terrain and better framerates than original exe + MCP + etc and multiplayer support through TES3MP and OpenMW fucking rocks. Reasons to use anything else get fewer every year.

mighty tempting, i will probably opt to use it within the next couple years

It runs like ass on original hardware but it looks and runs great on Xbox One/Series hardware.
It runs at near 4K with a stable 60fps in Xbox Series X, and you can use the original Xbox disc to play it.

It's great with how Microsoft and Bethesda basically made 4K remasters of the pre-Skyrim games through backwards compatibility.
Too bad the following never happened:
>no backwards compatible Skyrim Legendary Edition
>FPS Boost brings resolution down to 1080p in Fallout 4 and Fallout 76
>no 4K enhancement for Fallout: New Vegas
>no physical re-release of Morrowind
>tfw no Xbox VR so Skyrim VR and Fallout 4 VR are not on Xbox

Play it on a SeriesX. Load times are seconds and it looks pretty great for an Xbox version. 60FPS sweet.

Play OpenMW with community patches.
You can literally plug your original Xbox controller into your PC, look up Xbox to PC adapters, the controllers are literally just USB and adapters passive. OpenMW has native controller support that works the same way as the console version.

I'd rather not play the original, even on PC. Everything from graphics/FPS to load times to bugs and glitches make it the worse option.

Xbox Morrowind is a cool novelty but it's really a bad idea trying to play any version of Morrowind seriously without access to the console. The game just has too many technical problems to willingly play a version that doesn't at least let you stick a bandaid on them.

>> No.8894318

Holy fuck OP, you're probably the most retarded boomer I've seen in a while.

Do you really think there's no way to play Morrowind, a game with insanely autistic modders, with a controller?

By the way, many of the fixes and patches do work on the Xbox version if you have a modded Xbox that you can change files and knowledge on TES games to mod them, specially on console.
But I'd still recommend PC.

Hasn't OpenMW been exposed to fuck up lots of AI/pathing shit? I want to use it, then faggots told me about stuff in another thread, and now my boner's all farted on and I don't wanna play MW in any way.

>> No.8894464

>>8894461
It used to, OpenMW got a lot of fixes over the past year or so, it's performance is much better too.
You don't need OpenMW though, even though I'd recommend it (I have done playthrus with the recent builds, no problems), you can play the original with community patches, I also recommend many of the patches for OpenMW too though.

>> No.8894883

I don't know man all the things that people say are wrong with it seem kinda nitpicky. The fact that the issues with a project this big seem to be just "pathinding is iffy and this bug that's not fixed in original is fixed now" makes it a big success in my books. Open sourced engine recreations and source ports that aren't big piles of shit are always welcome.

>> No.8894920

If your Xbox has an SSD, it helps quite a lot.
The main reason it takes long is that it basically reboots the system and flushes the memory and loads the game again to free up RAM.

>> No.8894952

So will this run fine on series x or is this strange issue of the game growing and breaking still an issue on there too?

I'd just lower the resolution, may help a bit. Maybe use battery saver mode too depending on how your phone handles that, as some lower the CPU clock for most tasks when in saver mode.
