We really should write an OP with this information, since for some reason there is always a TR thread up (not that I'm complaining, Im just finishing 1 for the fist time myself thanks to you).
You have this choices to play the core games:
Emulate psx
Steam version with fix (ck community hub)
Gog version with fix
Every choice has ups and downs. Pc version must be played with joytokey (or you can buy the steam version and use a controller setting), also no crt filters so you need a separate program; psx version can't save everywhere so you need to use states to go beyond crystal capacity,

>> No.8871478

Finished TR1. overall a masterpiece. There are some bullshit like invincible Pierre that stalk us for 2-3 lvls, the idea is super good, but 90s tech wasn't there. Lol maybe even today is not feasible. Put him on a balcony to snipe us, on the ground ai breaks too much, it gets annoying. I dunno why they chose gorillas as enemies for the colossium, gorilla's doesn't scream Italy or caged animal for fights like lion/tiger.
Meat pyramid was like entering silent hill. Torso boss that oneshot you was super funny.
The last level was a nightmare, loved it, but my overall favorite I think is Folly.
After I finished the game I felt sad. It's a shame that classic TR is almost beyond suggestion for a normal gamer(jesus I'm over 30, I play retrogames on regular basis and played a real TR only now). We are all old dudes here, but I don't even know how many 25ish guys could muster tank controls, no camera, no checkpoints every 2s and grid based platforming. Lara is not like Mario or link, is not pick up and play in the slitest.

No, that isn't allowed. The modern dipshit zoomer audience won't appreciate the methodical exploration, low enemy density, or precise cliff-hanging acrobatics of Tomb Raider. They kinda seem to like to fuck around with various niche, mid-tier games, not necessarily AAA spectacles, because they "see the potential in this market". Again, those are the people behind Desperados 3, Spellforce 3, Elex and Expeditions: Rome. I guess they are the opposite of Square Enix where 35 million copies of TR sold was a disaster.

>> No.8873213

There is something really weird going on with my TR 3 game.
Like, sometimes, the in-game cutscenes don't kick in. And this results in the next level being completely graphically fucked up. It's as if the game cannot load the cutscene properly or something. I wonder if that's my GOG copy or something with my PC.

I don't remember if it can happen to any cutscene, but I've had it happen the most on the transition from Nevada Desert to High Security Compound. I think you have to return to the main menu, reload the last save before the level transition, and DO NOT press any buttons during the cutscene.
Now, the bug that annoyed me the most (besides getting softlocked in Lud's Gate by saving at the wrong point) is the awful cacophany that plays during the water drain part of Madubu Gorge, and the spooky dark steamy floor room in RX Tech Mines. It sounds to me like a sound effect that's supposed to loop when complete instead plays numerous copies over itself every frame, which ends up drowning out most other sounds with how loud it is.

I always remembered India and Pacific being really fun (abd the Pacific outfit is the best outfit ever) and Nevada and London being pure cancer. Turns out I have the opposite impression now. India can kindly fuck off thanks to that fuckton of "gotcha" traps and confusing level layout, while Nevada is a pretty fun, relaxing area, full of interesting puzzles and platforming. Even the High Security Compound is interesting to play thanks to the gameplay switch. And London has some peak Batman noir atmosphere.

Would LAU and LAU-styled game be better than the clusterfuck that was nu-Lara? Sure. Temple of Osiris is the great example of it (fucking 2D gaiden game being better than the "mainline", imagine mismanaging an IP this hard)
Is LAU and LAU-style game by itself good or desirable? Not really. Underworld was, at least design-wise, a step in good direction, but that ship sailed long ago.
So the real question is not "Can we be optimistic" but "Will Nordic fuck us in the ass by catering to zoomers". Yes, I'm aware their goal is to be the wise guy and cater to OTHER demographics than AAA games for zoomers, but that doesn't mean they won't just make a budget nu-Raider. Or insist on keeping some sort of broad canon, which by itself will fuck the new game in the ass no matter what.
In other words - unless they cut any ties with nu-Lara in a direct and flat-out statement and then deliver a game that's at least up to Underworld standards, there is nothing to be happy about.

There isn't - there are only a few of them this time around, they are less godlike accurate and at this point you are given enough powerful weapons (Desert Eagle and this badass MP5) to just casually deal with them.
And IMO India is the hardest chapter by far with fuckton of "gotcha" traps. Once you get past that, the difficulty evens out, with Nevada being piss easy by comparison.

Eh, Human Revolution was fine. But it was VERY apparent that they've run out of story budget at some point, because after Montreal, the game starts falling apart. You can see that the story was supposed to be much bigger, but they had to trim it down something hardcore, so you start running into plot convieniances, story placeholders and Jensen reading ahead in the script. And then the game just fizzles out and dies.

The next level is good because it gives you tons of medpacks. If you play the game like a jew, you can save those for a long time.

TR3 is best played with the weapons cheat on. The exploration difficulty is nuts enough. I wish they gave you infinite torches, it's so pretty.

Eh, I've caught myself not really using weapons all that much anyway, outside of my trusty pistols. I guess TR3 is much less combat-heavy than TR2. And somehow I still can't find any ammo for any of the good weapons.

Define "good weapons", because there are exactly 3 in TR3 that don't suck: DEagle, rocket launcher and MP5. Everything else is dogshit.
Shotgun is a good stop-gap weapon, but good luck ever having sufficient ammo to it.

I mean, back in the day in order for HR to be "fine" it had to simply be better than Invisible War.

>DEagle, rocket launcher and MP5
Yeah, those.
I guess Uzis are also "fine enough". Shotgun never gets enough ammo to be really efficient and harpoon gun can fuck off. Although, it sucked in TR2 as well, so I have no idea why they brought it back for the sequel.

>I guess Uzis are also "fine enough"
Not really. Super-nerfed and the only way you can have them at all is playing Nevada-London order of things, or else you will never have them.
Harpoon gun is half decent if you do Pacific last. And friendly reminder it is one of the stronger guns out there, too. Each "salvo" is equal with single DEagle shot, which is a lot.

As for ammo rarity - welcome to the suck. That's just the gist of TR3, I guess. DEagle gets only any real ammo if you do Nevada first, since there is bunch of secrets later that provide it. And you still want to save at least 50 bullets for the final boss (or was it 25?). And there is like 15 rockets in the entire game, few of them always being lost no matter what due to Nevada, even if you go there first. Really makes you wonder why they even bothered with this weapon. Since even if you save up all the rockets, the only enemies you really want to use it are the Tinnos guards, who can can tank single rocket and you might as well be firing MP5 at them.
Speaking of which: that's the only gun that has both plentiful ammo and is reliably spread throughout the game (unlike DEagle, which barely shows in London and Pacific and lion share of rockets is in London, out of all places)

I have a feeling I'm gonna get royally fucked during the final boss fight. Because I am finishing London and all I have left is Pacific and Antarctica and I barely have any ammo for DEagle and MP5.

>> No.8882136

There is bunch of DEagle clips in Antarctica and each provides 10 ammo, so no sweat. You should get at least 150 rounds for Pacific (40-50) and Antarctica (rest), but I might be off by a single clip, so it might be actually 160. And even then, the lost city of Tinnos has exactly 50 rounds to DEagle to pick up, so you can rely on that for the boss battle.
Of course, this assumes you get ALL secrets, and especially the ones from Temple of Puna and Lost City

People keep going on and on about tr1-3 but nobody talks about 4. The contemporary talk about tlr says it was really good. Was it just forgotten by boomers because it didn't have a number? I recently learned there were FIVE ps1 tr1 games with Chronicles too, but I get why nobody talks about that.

Trust me, EVERYBODY remembers TRLR, most very fondly, but unlike TR2-TR3 that are pretty divisive in their own right and you can talk in circles about which is better and which is worse at nauseam, the general consensus about TRLR is "it's good". And that's it. It's a very solid entry, with a good story and there isn't much to argue here.
Although, to play the devil's advocate and actually start an argument, for me it's one of those games that starts off very strong and I love every second of it, and some 3/4rds into the game I want to kill myself, because it just keeps going. And going. And going. And keep in mind that unlike with TR1-3, which swapped locations every now and then, you are stuck in Egypt throughout the whole VERY long game, and at some point, the constant deserts and pyramids can get too repetitive.

There is also the factor of hub-like levels, which IS a divisive part of the game and something that adds to the fact how dragged out it feels.

Yeah, by comparison, TR 2 and 3 had about 16-20 levels each. TR 4 has about 35. That you visit multiple times.
>i'm halfway through tr2 and it's pulling at my toenails
Hoo, boy, you are in for a treat, because TR 3 is even longer.
Although, arguably it's a better paced game than TR 2, because every section is a seperate stand-alone mini-adventure, so it feels that you are actually progressing with the story, instead of bumbling around for half of the game like in TR 2.
