I find it odd that you'd use Sunshine as an example of a time when Nintendo tried to make Mario look cool. Sunshine was the game where they baby-fied Mario and his universe, putting him at the same level as Barney the Dinosaur and the Teletubbies. I miss the Mario 3 art style Mario. That games manual was 100% soul

I really enjoyed putting Mario in the goofy outfits in Odyssey.

I knew a hardcore Nintendo fan who refused to play Mario Sunshine because he thought Nintendo was trying to make Mario into a gay character. I was a teenager in the early 2000s and trust me the Gamecube drove away that age group (and older) in droves. I didn't admit to owning one until RE4 came out.
