Retro Wrestling Thread?
>tfw spend Friday nights with intense back-and-forth matches
>tfw put in PPV matches and get 80-90% accurate results
I still don't think I've put as much time, or gone so deep into a game before or since

this game was awesome. still fun to dust off and use create a wrestler on.

THQ/AKI had pretty much perfected their wrasslin gameplay with WCW vs NWO Revenge. Wrestlemania and No Mercy really only just added a few more features. Been playing with the Career mode lately on No Mercy and it's good fun but flawed, it gets frustrating as hell when you have to go against 2 opponents without the option to lose.

that. fucking. game.

man oh man, 4 player WCW/nWo Revenge when you were 12 was just too much fucking fun. the fights that game would cause irl between us, goddamn.

no mercy was probably objectively the better game, but I'll always have a special nostalgic place in my heart for revenge. We played that more than any other and absolutely adored it.

>> No.887209

I remember getting Wrestlemania 2000 for Christmas back in 1999, and I played that game everyday for 6 months straight. I just wish I hadn't grown out of wrestling by the time No Mercy came out, because that game is superior in every way.

What the shit are you talking about?

Isnt No Mercy VPW2 just with a few more features? If VPW2 is the best PB&J sandwich, No Mercy is that same exact sandwich along with a glass of water.

Only differences are the rosters essentially.

Not at all, Virtual Pro Wrestling 2s character creation was far more complex, you could have the melee combos from the earlier games and you could assign how powerful the individual moves were, I could understand how someone could like No Mercy better with the belt story modes, but Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 gets my vote for best

>> No.887264

>>887259
Any game with BIG VAN VADER deserves the title of being best at something.

What sort of melee combos do you mean? Like, the way some finishing moves are just a series of kicks or punches made to K.O. your opponent? Or is it more of a Killer Instinct sort of thing where you have to hit certain attack buttons at certain times to make your punches/kicks string together in the best possible way?

>> No.887279

>>887241
Well it has a extra grapple systems, its a light grapple thats a strong one (can do hard moves) and the hard becomes a tackle take down,
Also a combo system (Like what Goldberg has in Revenge).
Also it has a mount system (Think like a UFC game) that can be used inplace of a normal pin
Also CAW is deeper and has all the WWF games moves (Unlocked by turning it on 30 times)
Also a load of hidden wrestlers that are more than just Mick Foley
AI is also harder on higher difficulties to the point where it will beat you without being cheap and countering every move. (In no mercy you could get away with spamming slingshot moves) ive had a few 20 minute matches that we're back and forth.
Ok so the roster isn't average WWF/E fan friendly, its more of a mixed bag, but theres always CAW to make some WWF/E guys

I did a bad job of explaining that, the grapple melee combos like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqodAwsdfAE&t=3m37s

They got rid of these in the WWF AKI games but they are in VPW2

If you've never played VPW2 and love the AKI games you're missing out, I think they were the pinnacle

I couldn't tell you, I've never emulated them, but from the mods a guy was posting the last time we had one of these threads I'd think they were emulated pretty well

>> No.887318

Emulating them is the same as other N64 games. Just grab a translation guide.
Also different referees, each are kinda different (some count slower, some are quicker with the tap out)

Agreed, and at the point i discovered it i was more into Japanese wrestling anyways. I loved playing as hayabusa and misawa(rip). And creating a character with an accurate burning hammer was awesome. Mike Awful

My friends and i got so good at it we'd have 45+ minute matches all the time, quite a few time limit draws. My best moment was getting a pin in a triple threat in the last thirty seconds. I somehow hit my finisher and kicked the other dude out of the ring

Want to win almost any match? Make a CAW that has grapples that target arms (armbars arm-drags, armbars, arm whips, armbars and the likes*) then have the special as the 6 second magic, by the time you get your special going you can win with it

Godammit OP, you've got me in the mood to play some War Zone. Too bad I don't have anyone to play with.

Me and my buddy's played these games religiously back in the day.
