Yes I made a thread about these same bad labels a few days ago but I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I got a deal on these, why the fuck would I buy another copy? Just to show off on a shelf? What’s the point of that? Do people really think like this/do this? What has happened to this hobby, I just want to play the damn games.

Yea, I think I’ll stick to just playing the fucking game

People really do think like this and it's fucking sad. Anons here will be quick to yell "ZOOMIES" but the truth is that there's a lot of people old and young, who don't give a shit about actually playing the games and just want a shelf full of boxes and shit. Let this sink in: the reason your copy of Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness is priced at $100+ is simply because someone on the internet called it "rare" and "a hidden gem," like Metaljesusfag. You'll always find more than a few copies of these so-called rare games being sold somewhere. That fact alone should make it clear that it's not even "rare" at all, but because some shitstain on the internet said it was, then it sells for ridiculous prices.

It's the reason I don't have a Dreamcast yet. I refuse to pay anything over $40 for a console that came out when my balls were barely dropping. Piracy and emulation are the way.

I don't believe people like the green text niggers actually exist. The board needs them to exist in their heads so they can justify their hatred of collectors even though most people on this board have a moderately sized collection if they aren't exclusive emulator users.

I don't really buy used game carts anymore. But when I did, I would come across a lot of carts with torn labels. Most common cause would be from rental stickers. It wasn't uncommon for video rental stores back in the day to sell their old rentals as 'previously played' titles, which would lead to people trying to remove them and tearing the labels off. Rental stickers were designed to tear the labels off when removed incorrectly. Or in some cases leave 'residue' with the video rental store logo remaining. But I guess sometimes people just kept their game carts in bad condition.

If I ever want to look at the label for a game I'll friggin' google what it looks like.
If I had a game, I'd put a blank label over the original and draw a picture of the game myself.
Then, I'll plug in my everdrive and play whatever friggin' game I want to.

Buy a repro shell/label and put the original boards inside. Then display these shells on your shelf or whatever.

Fucked up cases and labels bother me a lot. But I'm also cheap.

So I frequently buy games with completely destroyed labels or disc only, because it's considerably cheaper. Then I print a label/cover art on glossy paper or adhesive paper.

Sometimes the scans available online aren't that great, but most of the time I can make the cover look convincing. Glossy paper and maxing out the quality settings on your printer really helps.

OP, it's time to face some facts. You don't actually have any friends, least of all friends like the ones that you've made up for your ridiculous greentext strawman. YOU bought those shitty games because that was the best condition you could afford.
>are people really like this lele? i just want to play da games kekw!
This is a cope. You're poor, and you know you're poor. You want nice labels to stick on your shelf, because you're just another shelf collector wannabe, but you can't afford it. You're so self-conscious about it that you've come here, to 4chan of all fucking places, trying to get validation for your cope narrative. Yes, people think you're a fag. Yes, they're laughing at you for being a poor wannabe. No, literally no one believes you just care about playing games.

You could just stop caring about the opinions of people who'd judge you for having shitty pieces of plastic from before any of you were born, but that's apparently not going to happen.

I just use matte paper. If the scan is good then it looks good enough to me. The plastic will make it look glossy like a real cover.

All you have are your presuppositions about this guy's life and motives. Did you ever stop to think that he's making fun of you for caring about the quality of pieces of plastic you display on a shelf, and that your response is exactly what proves his point? Fuckin' tryhards man kek

>> No.8855161

it's up to the individual wether or not you want to collect games to play or mint condition games to keep safe on a shelf. I think that's just two different types of collectors, sometimes overlapping but not always. Just buy and enjoy the things you care to, for some people that's any ol' cart that will work, for others thats a mint CiB copy of the same game. Not everyone has to enjoy a hobby exactly the same way.

>> No.8855184

I'm sure there was a similar disagreement when comics were first being preserved and cherished as these collectables of a bygone era and not just goofy old magazines for kids. I'm sure tons of people still just wanted to enjoy comics like they always did but these elitist douchebags came in and started making all these arbitrary rules for how you should enjoy the hobby or else you're a poser. The same thing is happening with these silly pieces of plastic that used to just be stupid toys for kids but are now valuable collectables. Retro games is simply aging and going the way of comics and sports cards, it's becoming a middle aged rich mans collector hobby, it's what happens when dorky bullshit gets old.
