why do japanese turn-based strategy games suck so much? i was playing pic related and was amazed at how fast i got bored of it. it's just a slightly less simple FE clone with a narrative to satisfy military baby brains.
Games like X-Com and Panzer General are way better in what they do, the breadth of tactical decisions is immense compared to what japan normally offers. Any suggestions on good japanese strategy games? Should I try the Koei WW2 games?

They just might suck or you just might be a nigger. You decide.

FE is considered the most tactical jrpg. Gba ones are for babies though.

I like Military Madness and Daisenryaku

Genealogy and Thracia are great with its big maps
But tbf that's how they achieve anything at all, loads of stuff.
I wanted more than just move units to choke point and rock-paper-scissors gameplay

>>8837094
Daisenryaku is good, played one on the saturn

PTO is pretty complex, it's more on the level of a grand strategy game / wargame rather than a turn based strategy game.

Ever looked into Master of Monsters? It's by the developers of Daisenryaku. The OG Fire Emblem designer also made Berwick Saga on the PS2, which seems like a more complex than Fire Emblem.

Maybe you'll also like Brigandine. My personal favorite is Dynasty Tactics because of the combos you can pull off.

I dunno, I find these way too complicated for my tastes. It's where difficulty turns into tedium. But if you like Panzer General with all realism options turned on, then I guess it's worth a try.

Japanese turn-based games feel less serious more fun and usually have a more anime theme for some comic relief. Western turn-based autism often takes itself too seriously.
Besides Fire Emblem and FF tactics I really like Castle Fantasia 2 and Sparkling Feather

not just the strategy ones, every single J-so-called-RPG is inferior to the Western classics like Baldur's Gate 2, Ultima 4 and Wizardry 8
