EB is one case where i disagree with you. You can see they emphasized sharp pixels when they could have done the opposite. they didn't use soft halftones to mask it, and they emphasized the 45 degree angles in graphics. even in the final battle, Ness's face is pixelated.
it's different from the likes of FFVI or, e.g., Sonic, where they tried to move away from sharp pixels as much as possible.
