can i use this for retro shmup and arcade games

>> No.8816479

No. This stick will use you. For doing its evil deeds. Dont be a fool. Seek Jesus.

>> No.8816518

Sure, but it probably has Sanwa style loose stick (bad for shmups, but you can do some easy at-home mods) and super sensitive buttons which feel terrible rapid firing on.

>> No.8816693

>>8816518
i use sanwa denshi and have never been better
what would you suggest as an improvement?
only thing i can think of is a shorter throw
but thats splitting hairs imo

i love the short action buttons as well,
i can do quick double clicks with two fingers rapidly

Oh yeah, it's barely usable. Jeez, people on here are talking bullshit all day trying to make themselves seem important or knowledgable. Just... go outside, man. Get yourself some fresh air or something.

Seimitsu sticks were common on arcade machines during most of the 90s, usually the LS-32 by default though the LS-40 was on some Neo Geo cabinets commonly. The Sanwa JLF was around during the 90s but usually mostly on VF cabs, until SF4 where it basically took over as the standard (though they were becoming more and more common because they're easier to maintain than other sticks, so was good for operators).
It's worth giving them a try.

i'll look into it
i wanted to build my own arcade stick that
works with every system that i have

Yes.
>>8816518
It has a Hori Hayabusa in it.
The "JLF is bad for shmups" thing is really exaggerated.
The buttons are Hori Hayabusa buttons and would be fine for anything.

>> No.8818185

Hori stick is good. I don't like the buttons though. Also If you get a Sanwa stick get a stronger spring and it's like heaven.

>> No.8818203

>>8816473
Avoid hori. Stick to 8bit do and other shill products.

>> No.8818369

>>8816518
>probably
You don't even know the product you're trying to tell people about. It has a Hori Hayabusa lever. It's perfectly fine for shmups, but so are Sanwa levers. The "only Seimitsu levers are good for shmups" is a meme perpetuated by people who are never going to be good at the genre regardless of input method. If you really need something to "fix" your Hayabusa (and you don't, you're just bad) you can order
https://focusattack.com/kowal-1mm-oversize-actuator-for-sanwa-jlf-series-joystick/
for your stick.
>b-b-ut t-that's for S-SANWAA!

The Hayabusa is looser than Sanwa. I mostly play fighting games so "flinging" the stick can get accidental inputs. I'm pretty sure you never fling in shmups too.

>> No.8820454

I'd recommend putting an LS-32 in it not because it is really any better than the alternatives, but because it's more period accurate to the /vr/ era if that's what you're planning on playing.

I don't see why not. I use the PS4 version of the Hori RAP 4 to play the old Sailor Moon arcade game and the Touhous.

Hayabusa stick is fine, I prefer it to stock Sanwa, but if you think it's too loose you can always go with the Kowal oversized actuator + octagonal gate combo which is an easy mod for a shorter throw. The buttons are really light touch activation though which may or may not be to your liking.

>> No.8821278

I love Hori sticks and buttons. I haven’t used a Fighting Edge before but they seem very nice. I have a RAP 4 Kai and RAP N and love them both.

>> No.8821284

Yes, I use a cheaper Hori stick on my rpi and it's fine.

>> No.8821339

>>8816473
The Fighting Edge is really nice, the aluminum plate feels nicer than any plexiglass on normal fightsticks. I'd replace the stick and buttons with something else though. I have Seimitsu buttons and a Sanwa JLF with a heavier spring on mine.

Calm down anon I know dozens of competent players personally and they all vouch for avoiding Sanwa, Hori or whatever for shmup. They might suffice for fighting games, not other arcade games though. Seimitsu is what was actually used on arcade cabinets for a reason

No, you googled a bunch of uninformed idiotic opinions being parroted by uninformed idiotic idiots. But since you want to mention shmups specifically, let's talk about those. Gus is widely considered one of the best MHF players both in and outside of Japan. That inbred dogfucking hick plays on a stock Microsoft XBox 360 gamepad. Not even an aftermarket. The actual Microsoft brand controller. How about Aquas, who's thrown up ridiculous numbers in both Guwange and MMP? He's doing that on the stock Sanwa JLF that came with his 360 version HRAP, manufactured before Hori started putting their own parts in their own products. Or Dimitri "Prometheus" Aupetit? Record holder in DDP and author of 'The Full Extent of the Jam'? He plays on a fucking keyboard. The guy putting up the highest scores outside of Japan is a "wasd" player.

But you want to tell me that your choice of lever is holding you back? Something tells me you'll never play at the level of competency required to actually have a valid opinion on the matter. Now take your parroted non-player opinion, shove it right back up your ass, and clinch your cheeks together while you waddle back to whatever Discord you came from.

>Seimitsu is what was actually used on arcade cabinets for a reason
Congratulations, you actually sounded less retarded when you were still spamming "loooool u soooo maaaaad! xD" like an embarrassed zoomer.

>>8825571

not him, but i like seimitsu cause they return to neutral faster and need more force to push. it feels good. sanwa is really loose and sometimes i accidentally push it in the wrong way. but change the spring to a 4lb one and its great

>> No.8825592

>>8825582
You can throw the actuator I linked earlier in the thread in there, too. It really does work for both Sanwa and Hori levers. You might want to consider going down to a 2lb spring if you do, but whatever works for you.
>sanwa is really loose and sometimes i accidentally push it in the wrong way.
That's an execution problem. Work on fixing that regardless of your choice in hardware.

>> No.8825659

>>8825582
I honestly prefer the Sanwa with a 2lb spring and actuator over the LS-32, Sanwa gates just feel better. The LS-32 almost feels like a circle gate even though I know it isn't, it was awkward. Although maybe this isn't relevant for shmups since I use my stick for fighters more.

>> No.8825803

>>8825420
He's right though. Seimitsu was more common in Japanese arcade cabinets than Sanwa for a long time. Sanwa grew in popularity thanks to the Vewlix cabinet and Street Fighter IV.

Thirdie poorfag here with lack of proper english. I got into shmups seriously three weeks ago and just collected 1CC In the Hunt (OG Metal Slug) yesterday and Vulcan Venture a week ago on MAME in laptop which the government gifted to my bro a decade using an analog stick from a cheap generic USB PC joystick Playstation-like bought from a sovlful humble street vendor lady which also selled flavored waters (lemon masterrace) so i guess its more about you than the hardware when it comes to shoot them all, so put whatever the fuck you want in your game system and kill them all.
Adapt or die.
Health is also important don't forget to exercise, eat well, sleep well, drink water and dont forget to take ten minute rests because some people fall into autopilot after playing for 40 minutes straight and during that resting time do wrist exercises because carpal tunnel is a bitch and i suffer a bit from that shit.

IIRC, there's a restrictor that means it doesn't go squarely to the corners but you can just unscrew and take it off and it will be square like a JLF.

The only way to find out is buy raphnet and brook wingman adapters and see if they work.
You could email them first and ask.
I know the 8bitdo arcade stick is compatible.

My dreamcast arcade stick with raphnet pc adapter works with mame.
One day i am going to buy the brook wingman adapter to use my 8bitdo stick on snes.
