I never understood the appeal of this franchise. Sure, by straight-to-console standards they were pretty good belt-scrollers, but it feels to me that people who praise this trilogy are mostly console babbies who never bothered to try out arcade games very much. I think even the most mediocre Capcom beat-'em-up outclasses SOR2.

this is exactly it

it's like how e.g. Amiga babbies insist Turrican is the best run n gun

I have to say, sor2 has better, music, graphics and gamplay than final fight and all those shit and cheap arcade games

Maybe if we're talking about the cut-down Super NES port, but the original arcade version of Final Fight clowns Streets of Reddit 2. That's not even mentioning games that came out around the same period like The Punisher or Cadillacs & Dinosaurs.

you're just as bad as those sjw homos

The appeal is that this was one of the more popular beat em ups on that specific console. So anyone with a genesis naturally leaned into it. Same with Nes and double dragon.

I liked SoR2, TMNT 2 NES & TMNT 4 SNES as far as consoles are concerned.
>try out arcade games
If you include the MAME & RetroArch bickering, I think you know why people avoid arcade versions. It's easy to ignore beat-em-ups when those have been the most tolerable of the otherwise shit console selection.

As someone who was born in ‘94, arcades weren’t really a thing by the time I was old enough to play games. But the Genesis/SNES were my first experiences with videogames (started when I was about 3 or 4) so stuff like Streets of Rage 2 and Super Mario World was all I knew. It wasn’t until very recently when I started pursuing retro games as a hobby (playing them, reading retro mags to learn what the culture was like) that I even learned what Final Fight and other stuff like that were. So I don’t think it’s so much of a “Reddit” thing as much as it’s an age thing.

In terms of games where you beat up punks on dark streets, I think it has the best aesthetic.

It’s colorful and the music is cool

Way better than SNES games like Battletoads in battlemaniacs and Final Fight all of them

I played Cadillacs & Dinosaurs and Punisher almost every day at the arcades in the summer, but SOR2 has its own charm and way more variety in enemies. Also, way better music.

streets of rage 2 has a better ambiance and music than ff, that's just how it is

The console baby thing is partly true, but seeing as the genesis is a arcade style game oriented platform this is somewhat moot. The important thing is that you have a console beat em up with like 9 sprites on the screen at one time with no slow down. SNES action games in general just cant compare and this game is irrefutable proof. As for the game by its self: its pretty much just standard but remarkably solid all around not much else to say. Reddit types can bring anything down into the muck. It's best not to put dregs on the pedestal of enemy.
