I played PE2 first as a kid and PE1 later as an adult and I have to say I prefer the first one
the desert area in the second game is boring and then you get to the gray labs
I also prefer the battle system of the first game

Never played PE2 but the first game is so comfy. I often listen to the police station music when I work and study. I own the Japanese version and it's my favorite item in my retro collection.

PE2 looks amazing and it's probably one of the most technically advanced game with pre-rendered backgrounds. It uses every trick in the book to make the backgrounds come alive. Some PS2 games like Onimusha look great because of the higher resolution but don't nearly use as many "tricks" as PE2 does, like the transparency, mirroring, lights, etc

picked up part two cib last year

although PE1 had killer weapon customization - the rapidfire ice grenade launcher made me feel like such a badass

Playing 2 right now and disk 1 is really comfy, disk 2 drags a lot though.

Yeah, it's probably the better game overall. I think it's similar to Silent Hill 2 & 3 in the way that (from what I know) most people say 2 is the best in the series, but there are sill a lot who prefer 3.

I preferred 1 for two reasons. First was the city environments in 1. I always thought that the desert then mine shaft that the majority of 2 takes place in was boring.
Secondly the first game didn't come out in the UK so it always seemed to be the more exotic of the two. When I finally got to play it years later it was as good as I expected.

I prefer the gameplay of PE2, but PE1 is comfy pre-9/11, Giuliani era NYC kino. As much as I like 2, I think it would have been better if it kept the urban horror angle with monsters in iconic LA locations and ending with the Hollywood sign getting slimed.

I am more inclined towards 1 for the toxic yuri villainess arc and its just easier for me to play. There is a simplicity to a little girl fighting monsters in snowy New York. I always like to imagine Aya going evil and joining Melissa

I'd kill for more games like PE2. The level of detail and exploration tickles my autism something fierce.
