I understand that for sure and its probably better. Its just i already had this pi and wanted to see how it work. I got a 120gb card in there. Its got some ps1 around like 30 or so games. Played a few it worked okay at 60fps. Everything from there is just 16 bit and back. With about 30 or so NEO GEO games. That seemed to run well but didnt play them and the fps counter also said 60 fps..

I know the pi loses some power in its cpu when its forced into SDTV mode but i was just curious cause im not gonna plug in my HDTV for a while.

Also out of curiousity how would one hook up a modern pc to a crt tv? Im gonna have too figure that out

hooking a modern pc up to a crt with minimal latency is exhausting. you'd probably need to find an older video card that can output an analog signal, a converter, and a certain driver for the card. if you do some googling you can find all the steps but unless youve already got a spare pc that you want to turn into an emulation box id recommend a pi, a homebrewed wii, or a mister.

all you need is a displayport to vga adapter and a vga to rgb or scart cable, I have no idea why these old outdated methods like you're suggesting are still recommended
hooking it up takes a minute and configuring the software side is a one time job and takes 10 minutes, maybe a little more if it's your first time

neat

i have the pi3 but never messed with the analog output as i have original hardware .

can you run 240p test suite and test the input latency? i know its not a scientific test but it will give a ballpark estimate

emulation on the pi3 is underwhelming so i never upgraded

>> No.8787201

>>8787080
They didn't get rid of the audio jack. They just turned of standard definition. It was on by default in the previous models and would initiate depending on which wire was plugged in. I guess this actually caused some "slowdown" in the machines operation. So in the 4th models they turned it off in the config settings. Its really just adding a few settings to this file and its back on.

>>8787103
i really should get a second mini SD and flash something like that and watch kinos on my CRT.

>>8787110
How do you run the 240p test suite? is this a feature in a menu? i noticed some latency with Neo Geo. The jump was like a second or so delayed on Metal Slug 1. I turned on run ahead by 1 frame and it seemed to adjust back to normal. I only tried SNES and PS1 after. I played a few levels in Super Mario World and i didn't really notice anything like NEO GEO and run ahead was in fact off. I also tried PS1 with crash 2 and didn't really notice any slow downs and run ahead was also off.

i think the raspberry pi for all intents and purposes was actually a significant upgrade over the 3. I can't say this for sure as i have never owned one. but i think it is. i got introduced to the PIs when the console mini's came out and there was always one dude like

>just get a raspberry pi bro

and i wanted a snes mini at some point and realized they actually just cost more than a raspberry pi 4 or at least did at the time.

Had a weird wire mesh glitch that appeared late into the gam and. Like every thing looked all fucked up and wirey. I save loaded and it never happened again. Ive updated the core since then and its never happened again since then. Idk what caused it. But ps1 plays great on it.

its true, all of it

The true redpill is original console + CRT + flashcarts

This is true. There is literally no difference, not even in theory, from using the original cartridges, since ROMs are bit-by-bit identical, regardless of where they stored.

You get to save time, space and money on the original cartridges and at the same time enjoy all the small quirks of the very original hardware.

Emulation has its advantages, but also its downsides: not everyone has a powerful enough PC to run an accurate emulator, you may not have access to the original controller and the experience is going to be significantly different if the game originally relied on some specific hardware feature of the console itself (think about the DS's touchscreen).

A flashcart is a one time investment that avoids all these problems.
