Nah it was always kinda destined to do shitty in the usa IMO. Think about it. Totally mogged by the NES even with more colors and better graphics. Genesis comes out and soon so does the power base convertor. Even advertised as the "cheaper" option to the genesis. I think it was over but it got sega in the door in the USA and some people did have it.

Sega System didn’t have 3rd party games due to Nintendo tyranny, that was the entire problem. In Japan literally the only 3rd party was Tecmo hiding behind a shell company.

34 year old who missed out on the MS here. After exploring the library the past few years, the Master System is highly underrated.
It only has a bit over 100 NA games, but at least 25 of those are excellent/great games. The rest are at least playable. Having 25% of your library be great is an accomplishment that is hard to much. Compare this to Genesis/SNES that has over 1000 games combined, where the majority of the games were dogshit with maybe 5% of the games being actual gems. And let's not forgive the NES in this regard.

The game is pretty deep with lore - I only recently read the instructions manual and it’s got quite the story. The thing I think worked against it was the lost stars was shit and Alex has lack of identity or prominence- shit was updated but apparently a bit too faithful to the original, I haven’t played yet still working my way through the original .

I have a place in my heart for Alex the kidd - Mario as a platformer plays better but Alex just needs a bit better programming to be there
