Counter Strike is my favorite game of all time. I miss this like you wouldn't believe. Some nights I go to sleep and still have dreams about firefights in de_dust and de_nuke. The two great pillars of CS: 12v12 pubbing on a nice pub with solid map pool and competitive 5v5 in CAL-main was the most fun I have ever had playing video games. The maps, the boosts, the spam spots, I love it all. It's gone and it's never coming back ;_; this was the peak of fps.

I hate how this is inevitably what all multiplayer games become. Just a few autists playing on the same exact map over and over and over again with retarded handicap mods.
Thankfully I was reminded by how good multiplayer fps used to be by finding a server on TFC that had a good map rotation and 0 server mods. Was pretty nice, felt like I was in the game's heyday during the early 2000s.

I don't want to defend CSGO (or nuvalve for that matter) but CSGO imo does feel pretty good as a successor to 1.6. The most glaring issues are the zoomer skins, matchmaking killing pubbing, shit maps, OP radar, nerfed walling, no minmodels, etc but mechanically it feels like CS and that's what is important. If I want to play CS, CSGO will scratch the itch, but it is inferior to 1.6 in basically every way. Not sure how it could have really innovated.

I started playing CS 1.5 when I was 19. I am 37 now and have been practically married to CS since. I was a halo guy until I discovered CS. I knew what half-life was but didn't realize the story behind it's multi-player at the time. It was a natural fit though. Mouse and keyboard weren't a foreign concept. Growing up, I had played Wolfenstein, Doom, and Duke Nukem, so I had some Mouse and keyboard chops. I suppose that quality game play is relative in 2022. I was a quake kid. I grew up on fps I didn't really start playing cs until I was 15 (32 now) but I was well aware of it. I got half life 2 for my 15th birthday and we went straight to playing counter strike source it was so fun taking turns with my friends each playing a round or until we died that was a great birthday. I didn't really play before because I was on dialup and couldn't get my games patched up to the current version to play online. When half life 2 forced me onto steam I was actually able to download everything through the steam client without having to worry about interruptions or dropped connection ruining my download. I had to get another half life cd key because I guess mine was registered on steam already somehow and then I was finally able to get all my goldsrc games patched up to play online. I remember backing up my steam games onto DVD RWs so I didn't have to download all the bullshit again. Finally got rural high speed internet shortly after tf2 came out. It unfortunately was the first valve game that was no longer playable on dialup.
Yah i will always love the goldsrc games, quake 2, and delta force 2 for providing awesome dialup multiplayer experiences for a rural kid like me. I lost my parents last year and I'll be moving home with my wife and 2 sons and I wanted to set up a little LAN area in the basement for playing quake, half life and such with my friends and sons when they are older. yeah some of the CS mods are crazy. They have some skins now. Most are cancer, but some that I've seen are based I think. Granted, in a pub, they're totally fine. In client, totally different story. Want stock ins, simple as.

I have a screen shot of a CS 1.6 MA41 carbine skin that actually doesn't look half bad. It's like a glowing blue wire frame. Other than the skin, the weapons action and recoil are the same. Will obtain off of that system and will post momentarily.

Nostalgiafagging as per usual on the board, they act like the game is completely fucked when it is still at the end of the day CS. Not CSS, not CSGO, not Quake but just CS and always will be just CS. Touch it and change it just a bit and it’s fanboys will act like the game is ruined for everyone. Exceptions to this is hacking which DOES ruin it for everyone.

However there are so many steamgroups for just such an occasion that it makes that complaint null and void. Yeah you’ll have to socialize where you didn’t before. Maybe use third party shit to get the ball rolling. If you really love an old game, maybe just accept the fact that you’ll have to jump through some hoops to get that comfiness again instead of complaining over and over about it with no end in sight.

>having to use retarded bindings just to pull some tricks off is artificial skill
Absolutely. Its stands to reason that is one of the factors that prompted leagues
>ESEA
>CEVO
>ESL
>CAL
to designate such a binding as illegal. However they allowed the technique if done organically, off of the keyboard. There were also other binds that were illegal, but in the case of crouch hopping, you weren't allowed to bind duck to mouse wheel, in client. This is why it's so cringe when some server admins of today, kick or ban if they see someone dancing. If they impose rules along those lines, telling someone what buttons they can or cannot press on their keyboards, then their server should be configured to allow them to pull any players config, to see for themselves if illegal binds are present or not. Why not be in-line with league rules, even if it's a public server. That seems consistent to me.

Wtf this game actually worked fine on dialup servers with less than 200 ping were awesome. If you didn't have that luxury than you were SOL I had dialup until like 2007 and even CSS ran good on it but by then a lot of faggots would kick you for high ping cause they thought that was the reason they died not that they just suck at cs.

>> No.8798302

>>8798071
Could get around 200 ping on 56k which is fine, once you get above 250 it starts to get shot. Remember before CS when I think we had a shitty 33.6K internal modem trying to play Duke3D via TEN, and the ayyy lmao mascot had eye colours for latency and mine were always red

Reasons why cs suck.
>The bullets are rng.
>They always go in different spots
>What you see on your screen, is completely different that what the other player actually saw.
>If you are behind a wall it shows that your gun is above the wall, or you can shoot over the wall if your crosshair is above the wall.
>Meaning your chest and gun should be above the wall.
>But the only thing other players can see is a head.
Something really is unfair and fundamentally wrong with cs. But retards defend it saying it takes skill.
Then you cant move while you shoot. But those one people that side step dance get away with it.
I have noticed. What one person sees is different than what actually happens. If you come around a corner and someone has you in a sniper scope they can see your whole body. But if you watch a pov of the other player. Its like you cant see the other person. Or your body really wasnt exposed.

Not integral to the overall game play experience enough. Only a small percentage of players would agree and/or remember this shit. Minh Gooseman Le, the co-creator of CS, brought back vehicle levels in his game Tactical Intervention. They were ok. But far from my favorite part of that game, or CS for that matter. Sadly, that game is no longer available, for the time being.

take me back to walmart 24/7

>> No.8800115

I used to stay up late with 5 or 6 friends to play 1.6. One of us had pretty good internet and PC, so he created a server and we would talk using Skype. We would keep playing until there was only 3 or 4 of us remaining. Once we got tired of 1.6 we started playing UT '99. Then everyone got better PCs but me, so they all shifted to Payday 2 while I played TF2 alone.

>> No.8800142

CS:S was different, but it was still fun as fuck to play casually, and the different multiplayer mods (such as zombie escape) were superb.
However, I stopped watching the pro scene once they switched away from the original CS.

Good fucking times. I want to go back like you wouldnt believe.

I play and have played since I was 19, 37 now. I don't play to feel young though. I play because quality game play, that actually takes skill, is hard to find. More as a team, it takes skills to collaborate and execute as five. CSGO is a joke. Vanilla physics with no evolutionary movement potential. Over-emphasis on aesthetic crap such as skins. Weapons feel as if they're not firing is a consistent fashion, to other versions of CS. They feel bland, and have been nerfed too many times.

I need help right fucking now.
CS 1.6 WaRzOnE client, worked flawlessly for me on many pcs. On this one from which I'm writing, it simply shows no servers, says "no master server". I let all the game files through the firewall.
Looking online, it seems I need to add a masterservers file to platform/config, which I tried with many different masterservers.vdf files, but none fucking worked.
Anyone else had this issue? Please help.

>> No.8802903

>>8802006
Gotta agree. CS 1.6 is the tetris of team shooters, imho. About it's flaws, I'd say the most important one is how many of the weapons are irrelevant. Some people hate wallbanging, but I like it cause it does actually require skill.
Idk what's up with the number of servers in the US, but here in the Balkans the game is still super popular and there are plenty of pubs where people recognize each other and there's plenty of banter. Awesome game, been playing it basically since I was 9, 27 now.
What I do miss is LAN play at internet cafes, but I miss that in general, not only for CS, but DotA as well, and other games.
One of the best things about it is you can play a couple of rounds or you can sit down for the whole evening and shoot your heart out. Meanwhile if you fire up Civ or some RTS, TBS it's basically a second job.

>> No.8803816

I think the fucking scamdemic "gReAt ReSeT" is one reason behind the drop in players on goldsrc games. Now hear me out, before this fucking bullshit happened you could easily go to a LAN center and there would be tons of other people there all playing CS on the cafes public server which would draw in other players playing from home. This fucking bullshit had to kill small business to give more power to Amazon and the massive corporations so they can eventually get everyone on subscription based games cause you will own nothing and you will be happy etc etc.

In all fairness, with the rise of consumer broadband cable internet connections in the early 2000's, around 2008 is when the PC gaming clubs started shutting where I'm at. In general, I know they've been closing for years now, given how many players have decent systems and internet connection now. I'm sure covid didn't help the last remnants of LAN centers remaining. But they've been closing for years now. Besides, player bases grow up or move on. CS players are different in that, most of us grew up with CS whether directly or indirectly.
