What's the best SNES emulator?

>> No.877431

This is why we need the Emulation Wikia in the sticky. People ask the same questions over and over again.

The latest version of snes9x.

>> No.877442

ZSNES if you're on low end hardware, SNES9x otherwise. Higan if you're on high end hardware.

This.

>ZSNES if you're on low end hardware,

You'd need something from the 90's to justify it.

>> No.877452

ZSNES if you like usability and ease of use.

Or a netbook or low powered x86 device.

There's no PC that can't run snes9x. Don't use zsnes at all. It's outdated speedhack shit.

>> No.877472

also quick question

how do I get Sonic CD to run with ZSNES? I love that game as a child but I can't get that game to run on ZSNES.

>> No.877479

>>877472
Believe it or not, Sega never released a version of Sonic CD for the SNES, so unfortunately it isn't compatible with ZSNES. You'd be better off running it on Kega Fusion.

>> No.877481

>>877472
You have to hack your NES to play SNES games, then hack it to play Genesis games. Then you have to find a way to connect the Sega CD to it, which may require some slight soldering skill.

>> No.877483

>>877472
You have to mod your SNES to play genesis games. It is like putting legos together, I did it when I was 9.

You probably forgot to download a bios.

You'd be surprised. It's also handy to have a super optimized emulator in case you want to do background things while you're playing SNES.

Since this thread's here, where does /vr/ get its ROMs? I'm new to emulation (just downloaded snes9x), and I'm not sure where to look

Why don't you guys just visit the Emulation General? Their wiki is full of recommendations.

Enough with the "what's the best X emulator" threads every couple hours.

Does a 68k Amiga or Mac SNES emulator exist?

More like speed-hacked to hell and back. Doing it in assembly doesn't just make it unportable legacy crap right from the start, it actually makes it slower in general. Do you really believe the idiots who code zsnes can write better assembly than compilers?

It can't even do transparencies right apparently, was playing Bomberman 2 on 9x with a bro just yesterday and I noticed new stuff on the ice stage that I don't think zsnes ever rendered.

Do yourself a favor and get a goodmerged/no-intro set

>gametronik

Personally recommend the latter two if you're a no-intro rom fag, otherwise just google Snes rom downloads. Or you can just download the No-Intro or Goodrom sets that are avaible all over the place so you have all the games right there.
As for emulators, it really doesn't matter. Most are gonna play your games fine.
>Zsnes
as far as I remember not updated, but some people like the GUI

sorta updated, it's the go-between for most people

for the person who is anal about accuracy and has ridiculous hardware for running snes games
