Let's talk about games that actually force you to brake and apex properly.

I have never found a car that can win the Gran Turismo World Championship.

Did /vroom/ die because there was nothing to talk about?

It died because a certain mongrel with an absent father kept annoying everyone else about how games everyone likes are "bad".

Sports car gt, cart precision racing and I heard richard burns rally was really good.
Viper racing was good and it had heaps of car mods, the damage model is good in that you could crunch into a ball and still drive.

The 80's arcade game hard driven has surprisingly good physics too.

>> No.8744993

GT's shift suggestion feature is better than the driving line, IMO.

It still gives you cues to tell you want to start braking and such but you don't have to just follow a line on the ground, you can actually learn the turns and perfect the line yourself.

It's a little conservative (I notice sometimes it suggests a lower gear than I'd want to be in to take a turn) but otherwise it's a better way of teaching players how to navigate a course than the driving line.

>> No.8745002

>>8744993
I think for people starting out the lines help more. Knowing your turn in point is more useful, what gear you should be in comes pretty quickly given you obviously have to brake to hit the line, and braking means downshifts.

Glad you asked. To start off, I pick street-legal cars only. From there I change the oil on all cars and then test each one at Super Speedway on Free Run mode. Say for example I pick the Lan Evo 4. What my intentions are is to get familiar with the car in its stock form (with all assists off), then race it in the aforementioned championship. If it isn't competitive, I start modifying it one part at a time, starting with the transmission. I swap out the factory trans for a customizable one for adjustable gear ratios. I then race again and if I lose, I keep on modifying it till it eventually is competitive. After that I move onto another car and repeat the process with another car.

No. But on the topic of ovals, why didn't Polyphony make them smaller and smaller until GT5? GT1 had Test Course, GT2 had Super Speedway, but why didn't GT3 get a half-mile oval? I would think the Colosseum at Rome would've been the best choice to have a racetrack there since Gran Turismo is no stranger to fictional racetracks, but no, they don't make it. Then GT4 comes along and PD doesn't even provide the full oval layout for Beginner Course let alone an original quarter-mile oval. All you get is a roval because of that damn chicane in the Beginner Course that completely breaks the flow.

Most likely has to be. Especially since >8746906 mentioned that there is a 25 lap race at that track with the F1 cars. Granted they're way faster than the Vitz, but it's rather pointless since Super Speedway is on the F1 schedule to mimick Indy/C.A.R.T. on ovals. Why no one at Polyphony didn't suggest to create a half-mile oval instead of reusing Test Course and Super Speedway for Simulation Mode confounds me. Yes I know the team's concerns were on other things like the physics, car selection and accuracy, progression, and graphical fidelity, but you'd think at least someone would've said something about making a half-mile oval so as to avoid reusing the other 2 tracks.

Its much more of a sim racer than GT4 if you enable simulation driving mode.
It has great damage model, the cars have realistic grip and suspension work, I loved how the car creaked during turns or how damaged fender would rub on a tire during turns until the tire would just blew up.
Tons of cars and tracks and the best V8 season you can imagine in gaming ever, not even rFactor V8 mods did it for me.

why is it? i thought the pal one was the last and most up to date?

The Hong Kong one is better than the PAL one because it's in 60hz but still retains English. Easily identifiable by the Ford GT cover but acquiring one how lucky you get in your region, if we don't count just paying your way to it on ebay.

If you like GT3 physics better than GT4's dog shit understeer mud driving, then play GT3, GT Concept, and GT4 Prologue.

Supposedly beat everything in realism department on release including GT4.

Another thing is Richard Burns Rally which even now feels better than Dirt 2.0
I have no idea how they managed to get physics so fucking good its unbeatable till this day.

I liked the default menu and racing music in the first forza. Too bad none of the future games returned to the rock/metal themes.

Because physics hasn't really advanced in 20 years. It's a lot more profitable to spend your money on more car models than accurate recreations, and aims for "realism" often become bloated and buggy due to the increased computational load. It's the same reason pinball simulation peaked with timeshock over 20 years ago.

Anyone else playing Racing Battle C1?
I just reached rank B with a Toyota MR2 G Super Charger and a Lancer Evo VI GSR but I'm getting my ass handed during the RP battle on Tsukuba. I haven't unlocked a lot of parts on the MR2 but the Evo is quite nicely modified.
Should I buy a new car for a better speed/grip setup? I still have one space left in the stock garage
