best in the series despite popular opinion

For sure.

excellent game however capcom shut the lid on the franchise because of it's performance.

I love how all its themes were basically the exact opposite of previous BOF games.

okay? 3 was ported to the PSP. 3 and 4 were added to the PSN. DQ is still ignored. there was the BoF mobile game. do you consider the remasters coming out these days as significant? i would love to see what else the franchise has to offer but it's done for at this point in time.

This is the only bof i actually hate. It's just too grim. Awful art style. No soul at all after I played no. 4.

It is inaccurate/stupid to say Capcom dropped the series after Dragon Quarter when they still tried stuff with the series afterwards, regardless of the actual significance of what they were trying.

spell it out for me then. IV was released in 2000, DQ was released in 2002. the PSP port of III was out in 2005. after 11 years capcom develops BOF 6 since the port of III and 14 years after the release of DQ. since then there hasn't been anything. capcom even went as far as to say the game is a resting IP although this was before BOF 6's release. what am i missing that they tried because all i've seen is a port of III, rereleases of III and IV, a rerelease of I and II on nintendo switch online, and then BOF 6.

They ported 4 to PC after the release of DQ, and they released like five exclusive feature phone spinoffs in Japan.

Still waiting for this game to have a "hidden jem" resurgence now that people don't cry and shit themselves just from having to deal with roguelike elements.

>five exclusive feature phone spinoffs
it was 4 mini games released during the same period i mentioned >>8761707 and i repeat capcom closed the doors on BOF by reusing III and IV after DQs performance didnt meet expectation. dont get me wrong i'm a fan of the series i just don't see where i'm being stupid by stating the obvious.

You aren't special for liking something bad. You aren't smarter, you aren't wiser and you aren't more clever for having an opinion that doesn't line up with the majorities.
I hope one day you'll grow out of those phase of yours and realize that pointlessly liking things just because it's unpopular is just as forced and stupid as only liking something because it's popular and that it's possible to form your own, independent opinions about things.
Until then you're a faggot contrarian.

>Doesn't hide the fact the world has actually gone to shit
>Ryu can speak, Nina is silent
>Nina's social rank went from royalty to so low it's not even mentioned
>Ryu is a completely normal person instead of a dragon
>Majority of party members are human, in fact it has more human party members than other BOF games combined
>Dragon power isn't a power-up, it's a fucking hazard and limited resource that will game-over you if expended
>Designed to be played multiple times rather than once
>Also drops common JRPG conventions like being able to grind, random battles, and similar

It's like SaGa, it's unorthodox.

It's based and I'm glad it still exposes scrubs who can't handle the fact that the game's difficulty comes not from the game itself being hard, but from it psychologically attacking the player and pressuring them to make poor choices. The game straight up trolls you in the most traditional sense of the word from start to end. Unfortunately, while you can balance in-game mechanics, it is impossible to balance things like that which affect players outside the game in wildly different ways.

A shining example of this is the poison gas fight in the early middle of the game.
>Effectively a mirror match between you and the opposing team
>Ongoing threat of poison damage plus the hard-hitting foes pressures players to take actions that they perceive as being helpful, but ultimately wastes turns/resources
>Entire point of the battle is to see if the player can avoid letting the enemy do to them the exact things they must do to succeed against the enemy
It's honestly rare that any RPG, even dedicated SRPGs, manages to pull off stuff like this.

3 will always the be the peak of the series, it just perfectly encapsulates that 90s Capcom fun, soul, and color, and is everything Breath of Fire should be imo. 5 is definitely a unique, interesting, and almost Lynchian game with how different it is, but I really wish it had just been a spinoff or something instead. 4 is great too and has some really amazing sprite work, but I think I'm just not a huge fan of the generally darker/bleaker tone the series took after BoF3. idk man, I just wish we got more Breath of Fire that isn't literal mobileshit, anything man

I hate how Ryu looks but it's pretty great overall. Feels like it's related to FFT and Vagrant Story in spirit, too. Probably the Sakimoto music and the strategic combat. I know people will tell me they're nothing alike but I just can't help thinking about to those games when I play it.

I find BoF5 really interesting in a gameplay sense. So completely different from BoF's usual overall basic JRPG shtick. Plus a completely different tone and atmosphere.
It might not be to the taste of the people that would've preferred it stay a JRPG but I'm glad it exists. Better then the garbage BoF6 that doesn't exist anymore cause it was a crap phone game.
