Are 1chips really worth it?

>> No.8752632

These have better picture quality than earlier SNES revisions, also they have proper power buffering so eliminating the problem with the CPU getting zapped by voltage spikes (although the SNES can be modded to prevent this).

Replace the 7805 with one that has a higher rating or attach a 16V cap to the existing 7805. That will fix this issue.

>>8751942
Maybe sometime someone will come up with an FPGA replacement for those fried SNES CPUs; you can still get new 65816s from WDC so it would just be a matter of recreating the components that are unique to it namely the DMA controller and multiplier/divider.

I play on a 30" Trinitron and they both look great, so its up to your autism if you trully really want a 1chip, but of you dont want to spens so much, just get a GPM02 and moddit fpr component.

I would say that $100 is definitely on the upper end of the acceptable range, but not completely ridiculous. Prices have really gone up just in the past 6 months. If you were planning to pay $100 for a SNES Jr in March 2021 I would have told you that you were overpaying by at least 30%, but now that's a pretty acceptable price, especially if the console is in good physical condition.

I used to do it in an old house with old wiring. I honestly don't know how my SNES is still alive but it is. That was long before I knew about its, ahem, design flaws.
