What does /vr/ prefer, Monkey Island 1 or 2
Also, feel free to mention other of ye favorite adventure games

>> No.8756019

Both are great, But damn it I want a Monkey Island MMO.

>> No.8756021

Both great games but I think Monkey Island 2 surpasses it in all respects. The writing, the artwork and the UI. Although since SoMI establishes most of what goes down in MI2 both games are necessary to play!

>> No.8756032

Can't say I particularily enjoyed anything about MI2.
MI1 is iconic through and through though.

MI2 has better writing and music.

Monkey 2 is better because Guybrush has a cool jacket

>>8756019
How would that possibly work? Wouldn't that just be Club Penguin with more puzzles?

>> No.8757072

>>8757062
I guess that he's just talking about taking the world/environment and translating it to a MMO game rather than sticking to the point and click genre. Probably would end up like more like Sid Meier's Pirates! though.

>> No.8757180

>>8756009
I see them as the two parts of a bigger game, one could not exist without the other

>> No.8757215

>>8757180
Do you prefer part one or part two of the bigger game? :)

>> No.8757221

I like CoMI the most.
...sorry.

>> No.8757240

I really like those fan made "talkie" versions where it's the old graphics but the voice acting from the special editions.

>> No.8757337

>>8756009
COMI was better than both IMHO, chapter 4 and the voice acting alone made it worth it.

>> No.8757385

1 > 3 > 2 > 4
None are actually bad. And Day of the Tentacle is better than all of them.

If I reaaaaally have to chose, I'd say the first one. The jokes were funnier, I absolutely love the insult battles, and 2's ending used to scared me as a kid. I wasn't ready for meta-stuff

>> No.8757698

>>8756009
it's hard to say because they're both so great, i'd probably go for the generic ranking though and say 2>1>3, all of them being at least 8/10

>> No.8757708

>>8757698
3 is a good game but I really don't like how disconnected it feels to the others. I found it very weird at first because I started with this one and then went backwards with 1

As much as I love them I'm tired of people focusing only on Lucasarts, here are some very good adventure games from different companies:

>Toonstruck
very funny and I'm still amazed of how good the puzzle design is, everybody would agree its a masterpiece if LucasArts had made it

>The Last Express
This game is beautiful and extremely comfy, loved the setting and the plot

>Telltale's Sam & Max trilogy

>Telltale's Wallace & Gromit

>"Ben There, Dan That!" and "Time Gentlemen, Please!"

>Lair of the Clockwork God
technically third entry of the previous two but It's perfectly fine if you only play this one, this one is VERY good, I highly recommend it

>The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief
didn't expect very much of this one but It's surprisingly good and very comfy. Last chapter has too much pixel hunting though and I hated that

>Thimbleweed Park
I didn't like the ending but the game It's pretty nice and has an amazing atmosphere

>Octavi Navarro's minigames (The Librarian, The Supper, Midnight Scenes...)
They are free, they are short and they are cool, try them

>Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure
Hidden Wii gem, full of charm and very fun puzzles

>The Season of the Warlock
This last one is a bonus since the game is not out yet but there's a demo on Steam and I liked it a lot, it looks very very promising, try it.

Still makes me jump when I replay the game, fucking love the end section

1. While being technically superior, 2 was a suicide bomb by Gilbert because he was going to leave/get fired.

Lame. Seconding Toonstruck and The Last Express though.

I love them but like 90% of retro vidya it's just nostalgia goggles.

Haven't seen Blade Runner mentioned. Best game westwood ever made.

Prefer one for the classic feel and start, but two is just as good. Started with three and loved it, got me to go back and look at the first two.

>Also, feel free to mention other of ye favorite adventure games
Didn't expect much out of Full Throttle when I picked it up in gaming bundle, loved this one a lot.

>>8760762
Enjoyed Blade Runner, but was disappointed that it wasn't as "evolving" as they made it out to be. You could perform the same actions and go down the same paths if you knew what to do.

I'll be honest, I've never played a Sierra game, the stories of dead ends and absurd game overs always kept me uninterested. I should play Gabriel Knight though, looks good.

Dis anyone ever inject the voice acting into the original to make a "talkie" version to play in SCUMMVM?

Dunno, I recall there was a patch for the special edition to make the voices work in retro mode.
But I think retro mode still had some changes from the VGA version of the originals, like no closeups.

2SE has an option for retro graphics w/voices, but not 1SE.

The remake of 2 is impressive in that the game is designed with the assumption that "text is free" with just an insane amount of observational/incidental dialogue and they came back so many years later and recorded it all anyway

Phil Lamar reading every single one of the dumbass forbidden shapes is a particular highlight. Love how he says rhombus

I love the art style
true pixel art
i hate the scanned in art in 2, looks like shit.
the characters and humour in 2 are shit
oh look I'm the fat guy lying in my bed
the ending in 2 triggers me just like the annoying intro that it's a story he tells Elaine
I don't even remember how they go from story he tells Elaine to oh it was a theme park
1 has soul
2 is this wacky 90s game that aged badly

I got scammed into buying the SegaCD version because someone told me it was a talkie version.
